Hello ladies and gents,

Anyone have any suggestions for a nice smoking location in Singapore? I hear the laws are now quite though on smoke there these days.

Any recommendations for a good BYO smoking location and a vendor location?

I'll be bringing some of my own, paying the duty (nil duty free allowance for tobacco products in Singapore) on arrival - my small selection box.

Also does anyone have any idea on duty free prices and quality when leaving Singapore? I was in Kuala Lumpur last month and the airport cigar show was woeful in storage standard and loopy in price.

Cheers

Randy

The Olde Cuban is a great place to have a cigar. I haven't had any problems bringing/smoking my own cigars, as long as you're spending money on drinks/food.

Thanks Kyee.... Any feedback on Singapore Airport duty free?

Airport duty free sucks in Sing.

When heading through Sing Customs, you will be unlucky to be pulled over and checked. However if they find cigars you will be paying duty.

Pick up your bag, get in the the middle of the crowd heading for the exit, walk like you own the place. Don't walk to the door unless there are others in front or around you.

I always enjoy a smoke and some fine Malts at The Connoisseur Divan when there.

had a brilliant afternoon at old cuban with werner and another old mate from australia last year. the downside is that it is seriously hard to find, even if you are standing next to it.

if you enjoy a malt, i can honestly say that i have never been anywhere, not just in singapore but anywhere outside scotland, with a list of the whiskies they have. mindblowing. plenty of other spirits and wines - as well as some japanese whiskies, islay malts, we had a bottle of jacquesson which, from memory, was $125 - so much cheaper than we get it here.

an absolute must.

funny you raise this - i am just in the middle of doing a piece of singapore and writing about this very place.

and if you want a great meal (yes, in singapore, thousands of options), the fishhead curry at ocean curry in telok ayer street. i'd happily have this for my last meal on earth. if you are by yourself, they will try and talk you out of it as they think $24 for one person is too much - don't let them put you off.

have fun.

Funny you mention the difficulty of finding Olde Cuban. I was looking for it in Chinatown, couldn't find it. Had Black Pepper Crab at one of the stalls, took a picture of the menu board on the way out.

Once I was home going through the pictures, saw the sign for Olde Cuban in the background. Headed straight there next time in town!

This method works in surprisingly many situations.
