Is anybody here familiar with the HC Challenge App. It's a quiz game with 30 questions of multiple choice each time you play. The highest I've gotten is 86/100 (why they quantify the final score this I don't know) but i am usually in the 73/100-77/100 range. Supposedly if you get the first 30 questions all correct, you go on to the next level. I don't know because I haven't accomplished that. Apparently after completing the test, they send you a Habanos certificate of qualification. I thought it would be cool to have one of these but I don't think it's going to happen.

Is anybody here familiar with this app and test that goes along with it??

And furthermore, has anybody succeeded in getting their Habanos Certificate?? Seems pretty damned hard to me.

Never heard of this.....i'm intrigued.

If you've got an iPhone and I think any smart phone you can get it, search: Habanos Club Challenge or HC Challenge, download the app, and test away. You can keep taking it and taking it but it won't tell you which ones you got right and which ones you got wrong which I understand. My experience is that my worst is 56/100 and my best is 80/100 but it usually ends up that I get 73/100 or 77/100.

What I need to do is write down all the questions that I don't know for sure and start researching. Many of the questions are weird though, like here are some examples.

Cohiba is only brand with Vegas Finas leaves. True or False I said true even though I don't believe it.

Montecristo is known for its light to medium flavor. True or False I said false.

The proper time to start the Rearing is during the last quarter of the moon. True or False. I don't know this one at all.

Robusto size takes around 30 min to smoke. True or false. I put both at different times but that is subjective isn't it? I know people who DO smoke one in 30 minutes. I certainly don't , it takes me on average 1 hour and 10 minutes to smoke a Robo.

As each plant reaches the desired height, the top bud is removed and stored to be used as chewing tobacco. True or False, who knows! I mean you could and it wouldn't be a bad idea and we are talking about poor Cuban farmers but it also sounds like bull too.

The filler is covered by the wrapper. True or false. Well, I put false because the filler is first girdled by the capote but I guess if you wanted to be general about it, yeah, the wrapper does cover the filler but you're leaving out that detail.

Harvesting starts from June to August. True or False. I put false every time on this because it is my understanding that harvest season starts in March.

How many leaves are picked each time during harvesting? 1. 2. 3. All.

The first cigars in Spain were joined together by a thread. True or false. I put true because it was a way to get around paying high taxes and this is where the Culebra originated out of necessity from what I understand.

The bales that are used to pack tobacco leaves are made from the loose outer of any palm tree. True or false. Well I've put both on differs tests because yes, they have an outer made of palm leaves but are they palm leaves from ANY palm tree? Trick wording here.

Where is the annual Montecristo Cup golf tournament take place. Havana. Trinidad. Veradero. Pinar Del Rio.

How many Lineas does Cohiba have? 1. 2. 3. 4. If they consider the Maduro a separate line, then 3, but I've been putting 2.

The practice of the reader was first introduced to prisoners. True or false.

For which reason did the native Americans use the tobacco leaves other than smoking? Fun. Communication. Healing. Socialize. Well it's two things really. Both for communication with their gods AND for healing in their medicine but you can only pick one.

Maduro 5 is a Cohiba line. True or false. Well, the Maduro 5 IS a Cohiba but is it a separate line???

How much time of training does an apprentice require to learn basic rolling skills? 3-6 months. 6-9 months. 9-12 months. 2 years. Isn't this subjective? I thought I remember that roller Rob interviewed saying the average was 9-12 months but some can take longer and some catch on quicker.

I don't know, it just seems like some of the "right" answers are contrived and manufactured so that a Habanos specialist can convey what Habanos wants them to convey to the customer because the majority of consumers are not like the members here who are smart and much more into this than your average consumer. It's almost like they're assuming they're customers are morons and they manufacture the right answers as they see fit, not how things really were or are.

It is fun to take the first few times as it would be neat to get a Certification from Habanos S.A. But as I took it I just got more and more frustrated. I'll try and look up some of this information so I know for sure which ones are right and then the ones that are subjective, I'll just answer differently until by process of elimination, I can suss out what they seem to be the right answers on the subjective questions as they do tell you your score at the end each time after answering 30 questions.

Interesting thread. I will definitely try the app once I get home.

In regards to some of the questions: I believe Cohiba has 4 lineas - Classic, 1492, Maduro 5, Behike. Maduro 5 IS a separate line that includes Genios, Magicos and Secretos.

Thats about all that I can answer with my limited knowledge. :)

Saw this,I agree the answers are contrived, and I do not think there is any basis for study because of this.

It's like, or the message I'm getting anyway, they want to mold your mind to their lower, more simpler way of thinking so your a sales robot for Habanos. Like that bull about all leaves in Cohibas coming from Vegas Finas is just crap.

Yeah! It's really annoying.

On one of their own leaflets / booklets you can find a lot of information regarding their specific questions. I tried various combinations but still you will not get 100/100. I wonder if this happens at one time...

It is annoying - YES - but still would be nice to continue with the next 2 levels...

Any ideas / recommendations are highly appreciated ;)

I look forward to having a look at it next week when I have a little more time.

if it is written by the same HSA crew doing the Habanos certificate for retailers (a one day course) then I will be in trouble.

One of my staff came back from taking the course and was telling me that Hoyo's were not meant to be aged and best smoked fresh. I asked him who told him that nonsense.......it ws the HSA guy giving the course. cofcig.gif

It's quite an interesting test though you have no real idea of the results given very little information is provided beyond pass/fail.
