Ken Gargett Posted January 25, 2016 Author Posted January 25, 2016 So you agree? When Nick Ky Jelly comes on the court in an Aussie open draped in an Aussie flag. Tell me the time that Federer outside of Davis Cup did the same? well, perhaps i just had to express it a lot better than your jumble.
wabashcr Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 I have nothing but respect and admiration for Federer. Never a classier athlete in any sport, for my money. But I also enjoy guys who wear their hearts on their sleeves, not afraid to run a little hot from time to time. I appreciate that tennis has a very dignified decorum to which all players are expected to adhere. Even though Agassi was kind of a ****, his colorful personality made for a nice contrast with more buttoned up players like Sampras. There's never been a bigger ******* in tennis than John McEnroe, and he's revered. I'm not a Kyrgios fan at all. He needs to grow up and learn to be a professional. He needs to focus on playing winning tennis. But I hope he doesn't become a boring, corporate spokesperson in the process. Tennis has plenty of those.
jabster Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 we agree re mundine. if nick tosser had won a slam or two, we would give him some leeway but far less than you think, i believe. i would add, the blokes who win slams rarely act like this. too busy actually winning. federer, djokovic, sampras, rafter, nadal... what on earth did the greatest league team in creation do to offend you? winning is not a crime. blokes like JT, lockyer, inglis, matt scott, cronk, parker, petro, steve price, brent tate and many more have been a true credit to their sport, their state and their nation. on the other hand, we have gallan, greg bird, trent barrett, grubby reynolds (i use his allotted nickname and nothing i have made up) and a fair few more. they are role models for nothing more than the prison yard. i am assuming you jest. Absolutely in jest, well as much as a NSW can speak of a Qld team. It's so hard watching your team loose year after year after year!!!
Bill Hayes Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 Here's an interesting snapshot of how Federer turned his behaviour around. Unfortunately it may be too late for this Kyrgios tool to even consider a sports psychologist. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/10/sports/tennis/10federer.html?_r=0
jimsta10 Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Kyrgios is a malaka at best...(and that's an insult to all the malaka's in the world)... 1
HarveyBoulevard Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Favorite movie from my youth...speaking of malakas... 3
Overproof Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Hands down Mundine. Edit: Not a bad boxer though.
Coolio Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Why does anybody care what a tennis player does is totally beyond me... Either watch it or don't We care because he's a dickhead and he represents our country on the world stage. I don't like dickheads representing me internationally.
Coolio Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Ken you really need to add Tomic into the poll. He hasn't changed. His "don't you know who you're dealing with" dummy spit when being told he had to pay for a court here in Qld earlier this year moved him back to the top of the leaderboard in my opinion. Then he pulled out of the Sydney international when he lost the first set on the Friday. Rather than try and win, and have to play a second match that arvo (due rain delays), he thought he'd pull out instead with "food poisoning" or something. Weak. I'm sure the tournament organisers were rope-able. And John Tomic, if you're on the forum, please let your daughter be coached and managed by someone sane. Just walk away. Otherwise you'll ruin her career like you did your sons! 2
Coolio Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 We need more Australian tennis players to follow in Pat Rafter's footsteps, Ken. Think I've mentioned this before John, if I have I apologise! Back in 1997 I was playing in a wheelchair tennis tournament at White City, the week prior to the Davis Cup tie between Oz and France. While our tournament was going on, our Davis Cup team was practising. Rafter, Sandon Stolle, the Woodies and a young Lleyton on orange duty. One hot arvo I'd watched the pro's practice for a couple of hours, then leave the court and jump into the courtesy cars back to the tournament hotel. About an hour later I noticed somebody sitting in the sun with a towel over his head, watching one of the wheelchair matches. He'd been there a good 30 minutes on my estimation, before I woke up to the fact it was Pat Rafter. While the rest of his team were back having cold showers, Pat was sweating it out watching a couple of wheelies roll around the court bashing balls. Years later I met his sister Louise at a Tennis Qld function and told her this story, and she basically said "that's our Pat, always interested in others." Top bloke. 1
JohnS Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Ken you really need to add Tomic into the poll. He hasn't changed. Need to add Mitchell Pearce too! Perfect 10 for idiocy. The NRL must be loving the free publicity! http://www.news.com.au/sport/nrl/sydney-roosters-star-mitchell-pearce-caught-in-lewd-video/news-story/83672306a60fdabd1ef5b318a21e3972 1

MIKA27 Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 absolute disaster for queensland. they might ban him and you would not have him for origin. If he's added, I'll change my vote for sure. What a wanker
Ken Gargett Posted January 28, 2016 Author Posted January 28, 2016 i just want to know if bernard tomic hosted the party?
sengjc Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 He is young, Australian, has plenty of money, just starting his career but already a rather famous professional tennis player, mum's Malaysian royalty, bonking a (relatively) pretty European chick... what would you expect?

sengjc Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 can i ask what the relevance of you throwing 'australian' in that is? Young Australians, in general, come across as being a little more carefree than their European counterparts, I find. Nothing wrong with that, just an observation is all.
Bill Hayes Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Young Australians, in general, come across as being a little more carefree than their European counterparts, I find. Nothing wrong with that, just an observation is all. It's a matter of perception IMHO. If you lived where I do, surrounded by European backpackers, you might think a little differently. Although, I hear young aussie backpackers have a reputation for playing up overseas.

Yep - I work in an international firm and such is my perception of the Caucasian Aussie male vs. their European counterparts.
Ken Gargett Posted January 31, 2016 Author Posted January 31, 2016 Yep - I work in an international firm and such is my perception of the Caucasian Aussie male vs. their European counterparts. perception a matter for the beholder. i've worked around the world and lived with locals in europe/australia/the states... i suspect this is an extreme generalisation ("suspect" being a euphemism for 'am absolutely convinced').

No doubt, it is a generalisation on my part based on personal observation and experience. But I sense your relentless pursuit of this specific topic imply that I must have hit upon some sensitive nerves. If that be the case then I am apologetic in advance for the sake of harmony within this forum.
