anacostiakat Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 Two feet and counting! Six more hours to go here in the District. As a snow lover this is hard to say but I am tired of shoveling and have not even touched the front of the house. Just trying to keep areas open for the dogs in the back at this point. So glad when this is over. Hope everyone affected by this storm is safe! 1
RWhiz Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 I skied powder today with my son, sitting back with an Oliva Melanio Churchill. Sorry for anyone in trouble from the storms, but try and make the most of the situation! ...and it's starting to snow here again! Enjoy it while it lasts! 1
ArtVandalay Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 We got a nice little dusting last night/this morning here in Kennesaw. Just enough to make a little fun but it was nearly all gone by this afternoon. I hope we get some more this winter...

Lotusguy Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 Hard to see in the picture but it is actually snowing in Taiwan! My wife who has grown up here has never seen this in her life. This is not in the mountains, mind you, but near the airport. Good thing I am leaving for Cali in a couple of hours. Not so good thing that I am flying on to Germany on Monday where it's even colder. 1
Ken Gargett Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 i remember how even a small amount of snow in DC threw everything into chaos. so must be fun and games at the moment. good luck to all. anyone know if this is likely to affect the playoff games? for a touch of perspective, and granted this is from a place very much experienced in dealing with snow, i was talking to a mate in helsinki. they'd had a metre overnight and expected more of the same the next day. it was making it difficult to get to the office. he said the main problem is for people who did not take note of where they parked their cars. all parked cars completely covered so if you did not know, you could not find your car.
SofaKing Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 Yeah the North East is a disaster....glad I decided to book a long weekend in Florida moreover hot out in the nic of time 1
skalls Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 You guys are getting more snow this weekend than we've gotten in Fargo this winter. Snow sucks. 2
anacostiakat Posted January 24, 2016 Author Posted January 24, 2016 It is over! Probably got upwards to 24 - 30 inches in my hood. Whole lot of digging going on today! Less downtown but Ken is right. Even small amounts of snow cause huge problems here. Where are those damn kids when you need them. 2
terrantheman Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 Crazy!!! I would hate it because I would be plowing and salting this **** for 2-3days dependant on follow up temps. No thanks! How's the power situation out there?
torsion Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 This was outside my apartment building in NYC last night (the building staff did a fantastic job of clearing the snow). The rest of the street was not like this at all. Bright and sunny day today though, the wife was delayed by one day flying in from London (sneaks out for another smoke) 2
RWhiz Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 Great pic! This was yesterday up at Homewood, 2

Not so good thing that I am flying on to Germany on Monday where it's even colder. *Tell me about it! I was sent to Germany in October of 1978, and walking around shivering, shaking, etc. with the cold. Everybody kept saying to me, "You act like it's cold! It ain't cold yet!" And sure enough when January came, if you can envision a block of ice being made of air instead of a solid...that's what it felt like - like walking through a non-solid, dry block of ice! B-r-r-r-r-h-h!
cigcars Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 In Kentucky we were declared in a State of Emergency by our new governor Bevin, due to the snow we got. Both my brother and I have pretty much been home bound for 3 days so far. Will be calling the job tomorrow to see if we're back in biz again for Monday.

Looks like on Thompson Street in the Village or maybe Sullivan St? Looks awesome! I would love to live there. My favorite city in the whole world and I've been all over. 1

How's the power situation out there? We never lost power. Thank God. But even though gubmint closed today I don't see us getting out of this for maybe another two days. I expect it won't be long before people start complaining about the side streets not being cleared but this is an exceptional snow fall. Good news is being retired I don't have to go to work. Wife does though. Being snowbound with a four month old puppy is something else though.
