soutso Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 The thing is, if you're not doing anything wrong, you don't even need to know this stuff 1
Habana Mike Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 Regardless whether one is doing something wrong or not, they should know their rights and how to respond appropriately. 4

Guest scsi Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 Give me a break! Why is Conference finals in a cigar forum? 1
topdiesel Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 I could see the benefit of training your kids how to deal with law enforcement without giving up any rights. I would not want anyone infringing on my rights or those of my family. Young adults are known to not make the wisest choices. I did a lot of stupid things when I was younger. I cannot imagine growing up in this day and age with cameras in every pocket. Just because you do something morally or legally unacceptable doesn't mean you forego your rights. I don't see anyone running to their local customs office to turn in their cigars. 1
oliverdst Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 Give me a break! Why is Conference finals in a cigar forum? Sure. If there is any kind of problem mods will let you know. Good thread imo. 1
Fuzz Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 As long as things don't get political or nasty, then the thread will remain open.
Duxnutz Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Pretty good. Years ago I had a 'run-in' with the TSA outside their area of enforcement and had an interesting experience. Know the rules!
Ryan Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Here's an Irish solution to this issue. Here, we refer to police officers as "guards". It's an Irish thing. Also, the law here is to display tax and insurance details in the inside of the windshield. Those details are the first thing a guard looks at here if you're pulled over. People have started using these. There are versions that glow in the dark under a flashlight. Available here. http://shop.designist.ie/products/youre-looking-well-guard-tax-disc-holder The list of things to say on the back is quite funny. 1
TheFullMontecristo Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 The forum header specifies "talk about whatever you like" I assume that includes human interest issues such as knowing your rights. The problem is, most people do not know their rights when it comes to being pulled over or questioned by Police.
Fuzz Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Everyone should know their rights, but they should also know that those rights only apply in their own country, and may not apply in a foreign country. 1
JamesNYC Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Well done video. It's important to keep a reasonable tone when you refuse the requests.
Fosgate Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 I believe one should know their rights but they should also know what a lawful order is as well. For example I like my firearms and my conceal carry. But you always see these open carry idiots repeating "What are you stopping me for.." "Am I being detained" etc. Officers are often there because they just got a phone call and they have to come check you out and you never really know what that person who called described what's going on. They could have just claimed you shot up a place and swat is rolling toward you. Cop gives a lawful order and you see them sometimes not comply with a lawful order and next thing you know they are chewing pavement. Sobriety checkpoints are another great example. There is a video of one guy getting yanked out of the car because while he was trying to exercise his right he refused to follow a lawful order to move his car to the side of the road for his and the safety of others. Then he refuses to get out of the car when the officer orders. So the officer busts his window and yanks him out of the car. In my state you sign off on your license when you get it that you will not refuse a sobriety test or you will forfeit your license. Ir's a contract you sign and agree to when you get your license. You refuse and guess what? Breach of contract and suddenly you face your car being impounded because you are not legal to operate the vehicle. etc. Then there are the people who want to protest at night under Freedom of Speech and not know that it is subject to time an place. Point is, be decent to cops and often they will be decent to you. That is unless your accused of murder or a serious crime. At that point you just need to exercise your right to remain silent and don't say a word until you have representation if front of you.But that is a different animal. Isn't that right Flash? 4
Ken Gargett Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 The list of things to say on the back is quite funny. read an interview with george clooney about his endless practical joke battle with brad pitt. apparently it started when clooney put a bumper sticker on the back of pitt's car (as he says, no one ever checks the back of their own car - he is right, i used to do it to my old man and it used to send him nuts when he eventually found them). it was the outline of a marijuana plant with the slogan, "F... Cops". as george said, there is no chance you don't get pulled over. apparently pitt's response came when he was interviewed by letterman. dave asked pitt when he and jolie would be getting married. his response - "we'll get married only when it is legal for george to be married in the united states". and downhill from there. 2
