mcease022 Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Hi All, I am not sure where to post this, but I assume there are a lot of members who have experience when travelling to cuba. Can you recommend a place to stay (All inclusive) that is family friendly with good food. I am doing my own research, but I wanted some opinions. I apologize if this is posted in the wrong section - I know it is not Cigar related. Thanks!

cigarbreak Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 IMO Depends where in Cuba...in Varadero i would recommend staying at Sol Palmeras - family friendly and food is decent, just don't expect them to do justice to meats, carbs, and starches we are used to. I say go straight for the grill bc the food is at least made to order. If you like fish, then you will be fine. Another place is Hotel Playa Cayo Santa Maria, in Cayo Santa Maria, Cuba. Great hotel. Food is ok...just like most of the all inclusive resort food. Gets pretty tiring fast if you are not into fish. Although i will say when it is Cuban Dish day, the food is always much better! Keep an eye out for that Roasted Pig That being said, try to venture off the resort for food at nearby local restaurants. It is usually a significantly better experience, and won't break the bank either. All the A La Carte dining at resorts are just menus taking food from the buffet and making it pretty...and maybe adding a Spiny Lobster....beware, food you see at lunch buffet may reappear at the A La Cartes! Important note, if you have never been to Cuba or booked an all inclusive vacation there, be sure to go no less than 4 star internet rating if you wish to have peace of mind seeing as you are with family. Just know that the resort food in Cuba is well below the resort food you will find anywhere else (speaking mainly Caribbean and Mexico.) 1
Puros Y Vino Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 I've only done one AI in Cuba. The Royalton in Varadero. Rated #1 resort in all of Varadero. Five stars. More like 2.5/3 stars in Mexico at best. The beach was awesome, bar none. Grounds were a little tired. The food, disappointing. Especially after having spent time in Havana where it can be amazing. There are things they do well, pig, lamb, chicken and fish. Don't expect much at their international style restaurants. No flair at all. We didn't get sick from the food or anything but it was not up to par of a Mexican four star. Go to trip advisor and read the reviews. I'm sure you'll find something you'd feel comfortable trying out.

I have been to Varadero once before and I know that a 4-5 star in cuba is a 2-3 in Mexico. Im not expecting great food, but I want decent food. Im going with a 4 year old and a 6 month old, so I want to be sure they are safe. My wife is a little hesitant on cuba, but the prices are good and the cigars are great :-)
Troels Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Four stars was just ok on varadero, but sucked food vise on ancon South of trinidad. Spent a few (5) days on an four Star ai on varadero this winter with a one year old and a four year old. Hygiene seemed fine, food wasnt inspiring, but ok. We had brought a lot of oatmeal that made all the difference. Brought hot water from the coffee stand in a Thermo mug and prepared it in the room before bedtime when the food didnt match the kids likings
