Glenn Frey, a founding member and guitarist for The Eagles, has passed away today aged 67. He also had a successful solo career in the 80's after the break up of The Eagles.

Wow. That's too bad, he was still pretty young. I had a chance to watch The Eagles in concert a couple of times. Glenn Frey had an amazing voice.

Well it looks like a particularly bad year for musicians in their 60's

I just heard that Glenn Frey has passed away from medical complications at the age of 67.

The Eagles were the sound track of my youth and there was something about Glenn's voice that resonated with me.

All the great ones are going and there is nothing to replace them.

Listening to The Eagles right now. Though they were a bit before my time, I still grew up listening as others.

It is indeed a shock 2016 thus far, so many passed away.

The Eagles are one of the greatest bands ever, I still listen to them, timeless music - R.I.P

Glenn Frey was an exceptional musician, this is undoubted. The Eagles produced timeless, classic music borne by fractious and acrimonious relationships within the band. Paradoxically, this dysfunctional environment can produce the conflict required to make great music, examples include The Beach Boys' Pet Sounds, The Beatles' Abbey Road, Fleetwood Mac's Rumours etc.

I find it somewhat ironic that the (motivational) drive to succeed requires this interpersonal conflict sometimes. Would the Eagles have produced such great music without this need to prove themselves (especially Henley and Frey's drive to lead the band)? I would say, no. John Lennon was once quoted that the Beatles were 'the meanest bastards on Earth'. Without the drive required to reach the top and do their best, they wouldn't have got there, but there is collateral damage along the way.

If you haven't already, check out the 2013 History of the Eagles documentary. It provides a first-hand account of the band due to the fact that it includes so much source video footage in it. Sure, Don Felder may not agree, but at some point maybe you just have to let 'bygones be bygones'.

Personally, I just enjoy great music, no matter the situation/s in which it's made. I like to think the best of people when they pass from this world and be grateful. Glenn Frey RIP and thanks!

We sure have been losing a lot of music talent lately. Very strange, and yet Keith Richards is still going strong. I sure would have bet the under on that!

On a more serious note. I really enjoy his music with the Eagles and his solo career. His voice will be sorely missed.

Some day when you get a chance ask Rob about the time he nearly got into a punch up with Don Henley on a Qantas flight.

Flying back LAX Brisbane. Eagles were doing an Australian concert run but I had no idea.

Flying business. Three queue for the toilet. Mother and young son. A tall guy with a bouffant hair cut in his 60's I assumed...+ me.

Toilet opens, Bouffant pushes kid and mother away and steps in.

I know kids can't wait. Let alone they were first.

I pulled him out of the toilet and shephered the mum and child in.

Bouffant shapes up but was clueless. I assumed he was off his head.

He goes to the head steward who came up to me when I had resumed my seat and informed me that Don Henley had complained.

I had no idea it was Henley. Nor would I care.

Short brush with fame. Didn't end well lmao.gif

Very funny story Rob.

Very sad about Glenn, the Eagles are/were a great band, tired of hearing them on the radio though. I do like them and that documentary that JohnS wrote about is a much watch for any Eagles fan.

R.I.P. Glenn

It's been a horrible start to 2016 for greats in the entertainment industry. I enjoyed many of the Eagles albums and some solo stuff Glenn had done. Right after Bowie makes me feel a bit empty inside. We were all lucky to be on this Rick flying through dove at the same time. He will be missed but legends live on forever.

What shall we have? An '82 Margaux! Is it any good? Good....?, It will make you believe in God!
