aliz388 Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Hello FOH, I decided to smoke a BBF for this review ive been overlooking these for the past few months as I have been a bit intimidated by their strength and have been erring on the side of light to medium bodied cigars. This particular BBF was MUR Feb 2013. Appearance, Draw and Pre light: Lovely chocolate brown wrapper with a real oily sheen to it. The cigar was firm when rolled between the fingers and the head was bunched beautifully. The draw was firm but not tight. Earthy flavours on the prelight draw along with some spice (nutmeg, maybe a little pepper) First Third: Surprisingly just below medium bodied. Flavours of dark Turkish coffee, nutmeg and damp earth dominate, along with something i can only describe as a metallic taste (not in a bad way). Also getting hints of leather and pepper on the retrohale. Second Third: The spices back down and give way to more leathery, earthy flavours, body has picked up drastically and now is more medium full. There is a long lasting palate and thick luscious plumes of white smoke which leaves an after taste of bitter chocolate and dark coffee on the palate. Final Third: Very dark rich flavours, had to recut a sliver or two as the draw started to tighten up. The burn however is razor sharp and combustion has been spot on. the ash is mostly whitish grey with lovely magic flavour balls on it ( my research leads me to believe its due to mg in the soil when the tobacco was grown, could be wrong though.) Flavour wise everything just amps up in a crescendo of dark decadent flavours. Its definitely smoking full now and i can feel it in my head. Conclusion: I need to start reaching for these more often, but they are definitly going to be a post dinner staple only on the weekends. For me it was a solid 91 point cigar! Hope you enjoyed the review as much as i did the cigar! Cheers and have a great weekend! 4
ChampagneInHand Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 Very nice. I have a box in the CC tupperdor. I have had only one but Bolivar never lets you down. Mine were made in 2014 if I recall right. Nice review. What shall we have? An '82 Margaux! Is it any good? Good....?, It will make you believe in God!
Scrubber Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 Nice review and pics. Lovely sheen to the wrapper. I have a single in my humidor from a sampler and look forward to trying it now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
archosaur Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 Thanks for the excellent review! I've never had a great BBF. Sampled various singles over the years, I should try one of the recent vintages that have been getting such great reviews. I do love the format.
