It got me thinking, and I have thought about this many times, but I always go back to what I know....not that it doesn't work, but I am just comfortable with it, but I am always looking to better my beauties.

I have an Avallo and it works well. I like it. Not a salesman only know what works for me.

I have an Aristocrat with set/forget humidity control. L O V E I T. Best money you can spend if you're serious about the hobby, collecting and aging CC's.

I have a small humidor for this naked sticks I'm planning on smoking soon as well as a 300 count treasure dome. They get Xikar crystals and a back up Boveda. My smaller sub 4 gallon tupperdors get Boveda. One is just for habanos and a huge 9 gallon has Bovedas and a humidification brick that works great. I have big readout Accu-Rite hygro/thermometers in all the larger containers. It's way too much of an investment not to check them every few days.

If you think that's too much... I have a hand built wine cellar (my hands only) that holds over 900 bottles of wine. I check that weekly but it's been functional for 10 years and holds well over $56K in wine plus it's insured. With high value luxury items it best to check them and unsure them if you can. Chubb and Travelers do the wine. The cigars are built in to my home owners policy. I photograph all my incoming boxes. The wine is managed through cellar tracker.

Best to do you due diligence than expect mechanical items to safeguard your treasures. Just my $.02.

I agree 100%. I have the Avallo system and couldn't imagine going back to a passive system or an oasis type system.

I also have an Aristocrat with a set and forget humidity system. Set it to the parameters you want and you are done. Best investment I have made.

Thanks all, I am using beads & Boveda packs, I have been struggling for a couple of years now with the Set It & Forget It systems from Avallo, but the $ is always the case why I haven't pulled the trigger yet, but from what I hear it is the way to go.

A well sealed wine fridge (turned off) or tupperwear with beafs is set and forget for me, look at the reading one a week and they never change. Once every year or two just give the beads a little drop and bobs your uncle, Fanny's your aunt

Fairly new to this hobby within the last three years so take my comments with a grain of salt. I have had my aristocrat for close to a year and love it. Having said that, I think the biggest factor for deciding either active or passive systems is your environment. First two years with passive systems drove me insane cause of drastic temperature/RH changes within my home. Summer here can be brutal with temps well over triple digits outside leaving me with temps around 78F inside. Any lower then 78F and I'm just throwing money at my utility company. Winters are mild so I can set the heater to keep the house around 65F. In winter I jus lower the RH a couple of points and the system for the most part just circulates the air. In Summer that baby is working overtime to cool the cabinet and it keeps the cigars where I want them. For me (my climate) I needed an active system, for others an airtight container with beads etc. will work like a champ. My two cents.
