Popular Post El Presidente Posted January 9, 2016 Popular Post Posted January 9, 2016 Took my 15 year old son Tom on the water yesterday with Capt Gav Platz who is our regular fishing guide off the Moloolaba coastline. We fish just outside the beach breakers to about a kilometre offshore. Gorgeous day yesterday. Even better that there were plenty of birds and plenty of fish! I took a backseat in yesterdays expedition making sure Tom had the best of the boat positioning for the schools of Mac Tuna and Spotted Mackeral that we came across. We sight fish only on these days, no trolling. the fish were skittish yesterday stayin on the surface of thewater for only a few seconds at a time before diving and surfacing a few hundred metres away where we would commence the chase again. We fished the region from Mooloolaba to Noosa. Tom bagged 8 fish for the day and dropped near as many. Those Spotted Mackeral have a nice set of chompers i picked up a few small Mac Tuna on fly but the Mackeral just cut through the fly line. One of those perfect days! 16

I am not quite sure if they are the same fish. Consensus is that the mac here are thicker through the middle. You can certainly find plenty of them through the 4-6 kilo range. Bleed them and they make excellent sushi. I didn't realise that until I tried some in Cuba (Santy). Beautifully done with citrus dressing.
El Presidente Posted January 10, 2016 Author Posted January 10, 2016 See the giant cruise ship today? Missed it! We were on the water by 6;30am and went North to Noosa bay/Northshore almost immediately. Stunning day.

JohnS Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Great stuff! It looks like Tom has had a growth spurt recently, is he taller than Ben now?
irratebass Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Very cool! Thanks for sharing, looks like it was a good time.
El Presidente Posted January 11, 2016 Author Posted January 11, 2016 Great stuff! It looks like Tom has had a growth spurt recently, is he taller than Ben now? He is 6"1 and shading Ben. Just turned 15 so I suspect he will end up at 6"3 - 6"5
Fuzz Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 He may be shading Ben, but Tom needs to bulk up a bit.
