maxcjs0101 Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Hi guys, So how is your country doing in the new year? Mine's shitty due to the oil price, corruption scandals and so on. USD to MYR exchange rate is at its worse and it's still going downhill. Politicians especially the ruling coalition are as scum as one could imagine. On a brighter side, tourists can come enjoy our many beautiful beaches and a variety of food.
westg Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 And you have a vintage fiver coming your way ....fingers crossed you don't pay duty always nice for a visit
El Presidente Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Oz is steady Steadily sliding backwards I don't worry about politicians of either persuasion as they drain too much emotional energy. Focus on loved ones (family/mates), business and a little self improvement. We have a structural financial problem in Oz. 4 out of 10 people pay no net tax. There exists a culture of entitlement that is going to be very hard to change. Still, looking at it "glass half full", I wouldn't live anywhere else. 1
sastrooper Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Totally agree with you prez, the entitlement culture in aust kills me!
maxcjs0101 Posted January 7, 2016 Author Posted January 7, 2016 One would learn the hard way what the word "entitled" mean if he/she's in Malaysia. Certain ethnic groups are given privileges while minorities are treated like garbage (persecution, slander, etc) eventhough the latter's paying the most tax. Then i think every country has its own problems and what doesnt kill you makes you stronger. Or you just die depending on how you look at it.

I try not to worry about it. I have a couple of neighbors always watching KPIs and panicing that the world going to end. As long as I can remember the world is going to hell in a hand basket. Well, we're still doing fine. I'm with you Rob, focus on what I can do to improve my world and not worry about the things I can't control.
JohnS Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Oz is steady Steadily sliding backwards With China halting trade today and the Australian Stock Exchange taking a dive in the New Year week, you're not wrong!
forgop Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 Totally agree with you prez, the entitlement culture in aust kills me! It isn't any rosier here in the US.
galtline Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 The USA is being driven into the ground. For some reason 50 percent of our population wants what Europe has more vacation earlier retirment less productivity. Wait how does that work again.. Who pays the bills.
Ken Gargett Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 With China halting trade today and the Australian Stock Exchange taking a dive in the New Year week, you're not wrong! least of the worries. it will bounce around as always. massive hiccups will send everyone into a frenzy and then bounce up. the real economy so often seems to have so little to do with the market. i know that sounds silly but ... 2
Orion21 Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 Rocky. There was so much money pumped into the financial markets over the last 8 years to keep everything from collapsing that now that it has stabilized there is nowhere to put it anymore. Interest rates should have moved up by now to allow the reallocation of equity positions into debt, but that didn't happen. So now all the appreciation has occurred, the money has basically been turned off and no one knows what to do.... (figuratively of course). I have more faith in the economy as a whole, but think the stock markets are in for a rough ride. Luckily the USA has a very well diversified economy. I don't see another 2008, no matter what the self-interest George Soros would say. That filth would love to see another collapse so that he could buy, buy, buy....
luv2fly Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 Well if this is any indication, ADP, a payroll company just informed us that 1,000,000 of their clients payroll was not dispersed today. Needless to say I have some pissed people including me. Not sure what is going on and they are not giving many details. They said the money will be in our accounts on Monday. I am fine, thankfully, but there are a lot of folks out there that are not. Looking for this on the news now but nothing yet.

This is what happens when liberals have the keys to the car. Take from those who produce and give to those who don't. Unfortunately, the Republicans aren't much better. With them we get a slower death. Until we get an administration that appreciates the power of a free market, our economy will drag along much like the rest of the world.
headstand Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Very low dollar = fewer cigar purchases This. The forecast for western Canada's oil economy is: shitty with a high probability of crap. 1
kuma Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 States have some very big problems to overcome. Work leaving to countries that can make things cheaper. The export / import ratio; cars and other comodites coming into this country on huge transport ships (so. Korea electronics, Japan autos, China everything under the sun) I think the ratio is somethinge like 10:1; coming into the country 10, 1 going out. We also are in the hole for 20 trillion! China and Japan own more T-bills than the states. The only thing we lead the world in is weapons making. Yes are unemployment is about 5% for about 300 million people which seems great on the surface but many of those people that are working are in the service sector which are very low paying jobs with NO-benefits. Good thing now is gas in this country is about 2.00 dollars a gallon so the american love of driving is moving along to the tune of saving about 800 - 1000 dollars a year in savings. So if in the medical field or higher ed. with a PHD you stand to make a great living. Doctors here get anyware from 200,00.00 -1 million a year if they are in a speciality like hip / knee replacement, or facelift procedures, etc, etc,. Also some union jobs that pay a lot like firemen, police or plumbing, electrican pay pretty good. Wall street hedge fund managers make on the average 200 million to god only knows. Another good thing in the states is if you don't like what you do you can change your job with the right education. Women in this country have made great strides. They are what higher education is always looking for before a male. Females have taken over higher ed. in this country. I should know my wife teaches and her services are always in demand with two masters and a PHD. I get kudos from her for being street wise. I'm not an expert on any of this just passing along what looks like is hapening is this country. I guess compared to other countries this country is still head and shoulders above the many in terms of quality of life. 1

'Tis true, Ken. I forgot to add the joys of following the Australian dollar. It's the 5th most traded currency in the world, yet definitely the most volatile to sharp appreciations/depreciations at short notice!
Akela3rd Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 I just wrote a long rant about the state of the UK and then deleted it. Waaay too angry and sweary. Bottom line - politicians lie about how we are doing, no one really knows. Stay happy FoH-ers, **** 'em and the horses they rode in on. ✌
Dave O))) Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 We have a structural financial problem in Oz. 4 out of 10 people pay no net tax. There exists a culture of entitlement that is going to be very hard to change. Would that be such an issue if multinationals paid their fair share? Culturally yes, economically no so much methinks. 1

sengjc Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Totally agree with you prez, the entitlement culture in aust kills me! Root cause of high, unionised labour rates?
