So bizarre that I just started watching this last night. On Epi 4 now. Amazing.

I'm about 6-7 episodes in. It's terrifying to see what law enforcement is capable of. This could happen to anyone.

Not sure how anyone that has watched this cannot say he didn't get the "shaft"...

One sided? Someone needs to tell his side.

Note to self: never live in a community with a population of less than 60-70,000 people

The film has at the very least presented enough evidence to show a need to have the State re-open this case and get it right . There are a lot of morally questionable folks involved in this whole sordid affair. Disturbing to say the least.

This is why I tell all my clients that jury trials are dangerous...especially for the innocent.

I spent almost a decade as a court clerk/bailiff/judicial assistant and have always told my friends that if you are innocent then ask for a bench trial: the judge knows the law and, as importantly, knows who in the system is trustworthy. If you're guilty ask for a jury because you just never know what will happen after you lock 12 people in a room to make a decision.

I'm about halfway through the series so far and while it is clearly slanted, having grown up in a rural county and worked in the system in a rural county I'm not shocked by the allegations against the sheriffs office. Police corruption is t limited to places like Chicago and LA. But I also know personally of several instances where people have been exonerated in some way of serious charges and then consider themselves untouchable and commit even worse crimes.

What if you suspect the judge of not being "trustworthy"?

I once fought a speeding ticket in a small town. I happened to get there very early and was sitting waiting when everyone showed up (judge, crown, police...etc.) I got the very distinct impression that if most of those people weren't related then they were at the very least hunting and fishing buddies. Needless to say, it didn't go very well for myself.

Exactly what I thought, even at the work place I see friends of friends getting hired with no background to match they're positions. It's a shame.

Just finished watching this last night. Great doco and really well edited. I feel sorry for that kid being charged on all 3 counts and getting life. I don't think he was directly involved. It was interesting that the Jury was majority not guilty at the beginning of their deliberation for Steven's trial, what went on in there! I lean more towards the side that he's not guilty.

I've really been enjoying reading all the theories post watching this too. Some fan fiction of the German theory posted on this guys blog back in 2009 (apparently) and the Bobby and Scott theory is interesting also.

I have yet to start watching this but it is in the queue. The wife is quite interested in starting it but I get the impression that I am going to have difficulty watching though. I think I am going to sit there the whole time being frustrated for this guy and his situation and that's going to make me upset. It doesn't really make for a relaxing time.

Kind of like how I feel being a Toronto Maple Leafs fan and watching them play hockey...Sigh.
