Duxnutz Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 Anyone watching this? Wife is from Wisconsin and we're enthralled with it. Several part series on Netflix.
hungrylikawolf Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 Yep. Extremely interesting. Good look at some of the failings that can occur in the U.S. legal system. Not sure if he was guilty of the murder but keeping him locked up for 18 years the first time while ignoring all other evidence is a true system failure. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
SofaKing Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 Funny enough just started it tonight...got an episode down and on to the 2nd. Its growing on me too.
Fosgate Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 I watched the whole thing and just flabbergasted. Biggest mistake that guy made was going back to that town. But as someone locked up for 18yrs where else could the guy go? I wanted to choke those people interviewing that kid who was obviously not competent. So many inconsistencies they should have tossed out his whole testimony and turned the kid loose. Also, if he went through the effort of trying to clean things up, hide her body by burning it, why would the guy not crush her car when he owns a car crusher? The vial of old evidence with broken seal and what looked like someone withdrew a sample of his blood. He does not come across as the dimwit his nephew is. Of course, the profile of the case, why the hell did the local PD not cover their bases knowing **** may hit the fan on this. I normally sit in silence watching TB but I think there were a few times I vocalized "WTF?!!" more than once. 2
danny Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 Just finished watching this yesterday. It's absolutely insane that all that happened to Steve Avery and his nephew Brendan, but can't say I'm surprised by the corruption. Such a sad story... and to have their appeals and requests to reopen the cases denied is just ridiculous...
SipIt Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 I grew up in Milwaukee and just started watching it yesterday. It's absolutely unreal, regardless what may or may not be left out of the documentary. Just ridiculous.
LeafLover Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 What a coincidence!!!! I just heard one of the nurses in the ER mention this, then when I got home my wife suggested to her that we watch it. Gonna check it out now.
madandana Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 Got through 2 episodes last night. Scary what they can do to you if they want. 1
joeypots Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 Ten hours of carefully edited video can make a very compelling argument. The legal system appears corrupt but a little investigation turns up some of the evidence that was not presented in the series. I think the series is very good film making but I'm not going to make any judgements about Avery's guilt or innocence based on the it. That said, I couldn't stop watching it. 2
teamrandr Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 That movie was about as one sided as they come. 1

I've done some reading after watching it too but still think he got a raw deal. The 17 yr old kid though..... that made me cringe.
squizz Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 Yup, finished episode 3 last night. Very interesting. I will hold judgement of the show and the case until I finish.
JWBurns Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 While I'll agree there were some underhanded activities occurring in that county, it's still a one sided hit piece. We're not getting the full story, from either side. 2
kobsjones Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/tv/evidence-s-missing-making-murderer-article-1.2485213 Read this before thinking the guy is totally innocent 2
Mr.T Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 Just started watching it. My wife loves this stuff and is really into it having grown up south of Manitowoc. I was speechless and shaking my head after only one episode. Hard not to get hooked on it... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Orion21 Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 The guy was in jail for 18 freaking years for a crime he didn't commit . . . No matter what he says about leaving his anger in jail after he was released - 18 years in a prison with the worst people imaginable will change a person. Also, it was said Steve's IQ is around 70, which is low. Is it out of the realm of possibility he took on the persona of the savage rapist he was thought to be for 18 years? Let's be honest, he showed the hallmarks of a not so great person while young. committing crimes, torturing an animal, running a woman off the road and then pulling a gun because she was spreading rumors about him. And all of that was before the 18 years is a maximum security prison . . . My point is that just because he was guilty of the first crime doesn't automatically make him innocent of murder. Many, many people totally misunderstand how the legal system works. They especially don't understand the process of gathering and examining evidence. TV makes it look like an exact science and it's far from it. Just because all the evidence isn't 100% compelling and incontrovertible doesn't mean Mr. Avery was framed a second time. Unless someone is caught in the act or confesses while not under duress, most cases are based on enough circumstantial evidence coming together to create a picture that a jury can use to decide innocence or guilt.
HarveyBoulevard Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 ...most cases are based on enough circumstantial evidence coming together to create a picture that a jury can use to decide innocence or guilt. I wish I could agree with you but my entire career and life experience tells me otherwise. I think many people feel the way you do but the system is far from perfect and so are the humans that run it (including law enforcement, prosecutors, and judges). This is why I tell all my clients that jury trials are dangerous...especially for the innocent. 1
teamrandr Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 I think the guy deserved 18 years for torturing that cat.
HarveyBoulevard Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 I think the guy deserved 18 years for torturing that cat. I do agree with that. Its the one type of case I refuse to take. No animal abusers. 1
Orion21 Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 I wish I could agree with you but my entire career and life experience tells me otherwise. I think many people feel the way you do but the system is far from perfect and so are the humans that run it (including law enforcement, prosecutors, and judges). This is why I tell all my clients that jury trials are dangerous...especially for the innocent. We do agree, I should have said 'in the best case scenario" the circumstantial evidence comes together to show the jury a picture of innocence or guilt.' That's why I threw in the TV reference. In any event, stories can be created, twisted and/or manipulated to create a picture of almost anything. That is why I would suggest the watchers of this series be very very careful not to jump to conclusions. The fact so many hundreds of thousands of people have signed petitions to have these two released based on viewing this one series is scary, but not at all surprising...
danny Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Not sure how much truth is in this but I read that a juror came out and said that some of the other jurors were related somehow to officers of the Sheriffs department. Similar to how one Public Defender had family ties in the series (can't remember in what capacity)
egoo33 Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 love the show and can see the sheriff's office having it out for him but how much was left out to have the directors have people reach their point of view. a quick google search shows a few things about steven that were unsettling and how the photographer never wanted to be on his property. my two cents is that he did it and the local law enforcement took it upon themselves to go over the top to make it a slam dunk, but what they did to the cousin is scary he clearly wasn't all there.
Scroats Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 The gf put this on. I watched a couple episodes, and it's a great story but it's abundantly clear they are telling the story they want to tell.
