Pixa Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 Plenty of fakes are made in Cuba using Cuban tobacco, and find their way all over the globe.... And many more are made in Costa Rica Dominican Republic and other places. I fail to see your point your trying to make.
Fosgate Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 I think we will see them popping up all over. A friend of mine paid for his college tuition back in the early 90's by ordering the cheap sampler bags from catalog vendors, going to gas stations around the rural areas of South Dakota and Nebraska where they had a small glass lid desktop humidor he had on the counter. I think he sold them about 3x his cost. Gas station owners loved them because they got a large chunk and they sold like hot cakes. Locals loved them because they couldn't get anything anywhere else. All he had to do was go around on a Saturday morning and restock a few places and collect his share. Someone could easily do the same with fake Cubans.
aushy Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 I'm finding it a bit skeptical that a tobacco retailer, someone who specialises in tobacco and makes a living of it, does not know the rules and regulations regarding said tobacco. He is quite clearly not using official distributors either which would make me question the entire shop operation. 1
perkinke Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 Maybe a stupid question, but are they CERTAIN that it was a box of COHIBA siglos? There is an NC brand named "Siglo" that uses Roman numerals for its vitolas and VERY similar bands.bands.
PigFish Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 I have but one thing to say. "No brains, no headaches." You don't need to go to that cigar store to get bad advice. All you need to do is open up your browser and start reading. Let the buyer beware! Somehow this attitude that the buyer has no responsibility in a transaction is foreign to me. I am not condoning a fraud if it is intentional, I am simply stating that ignorance and stupidity are poor business partners and you cannot protect ignorant people from making poor choices. -Piggy 1

A consumer does not necessarily have all the information on hand, and that is often the exact reason to go into a shop. You go to a shop to receive advice and recommendations on products. In this case, the person buying these 'Cubans' may not even smoke cigars, they may be a gift for example. The current embargo status is indeed confusing for people who haven't followed it. But you can't blame the consumer for being given bad information from a supposed professional. You should be able to trust in a shop owner to give good advice and you definitely should not expect them to sell you an illegal product. 1
BBS Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 Advocating involving the atf is one of the "oddest" things I've ever read here. Back to my glass house..... Where, in my post, did you see me advocate for the ATF? If the guy is lying to his customers he's a slimeball, doesn't take the ATF to make that call.
deejank Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 Worried to see more similar type scams in the coming years. i feel terrible for new CC fans that don't know the signs...

ThatAlfonso Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 I've been looking for a domestic CC dealer for a while. Please post the web address so I can place my order.
