aliz388 Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 Hi All, Today while rummaging through some old boxes while cleaning out my store room. I found an old box labelled E.A.G my grandfathers initials upon opening it i chanced upon a few ods and ends and an old cigar box. when i opened it i found a bunch of empty tubos. i opened each and was dissappointed to find them all devoid of cigars. till i picked one of the biggest and found it had some weight to it. Upon opening it i found the old boy sitting snuggly in its ceder wrapper, suprisingly not to beaten up a small crack at the head,a slightly frayed foot and a bit of dehydration is all this bad boy succumbed to over the years. Was hoping someone could possibly date (approx.) how old it is and shed some more light on this particular cigar. My grandfather was a banker and a huge pipe smoker smoked quite a few cigars in the day as well so im quite certain of its authenticity. Thanks granddad! It's like getting a christmas gift from beyond the grave. Any input would be highly valued! Merry Christmas!!! 1
Fugu Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 Nothing suspect with this cigar. Discontinued 2002 --> CCW As for dating, difficult since no (major?) changes in tube design and band used (standard band A, which seems to be the case here also). Never smoked this one.
laficion Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 Any input would be highly valued! Hi aliz388, It's a pre-1960 release. Discontinued In 2002. Guy
Smallclub Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 Excellent churchill, completely different from the Corona Gigantes. Could still be found in Paris and Geneva around 2005.
Homebrew Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 I have one left, from a 2000 box. They have all been quite good. Dave (A.K.A. Homebrew)
NSXCIGAR Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 As Fugu notes this particular cigar is virtually impossible to date as the tube/band design hasn't changed since 1960. Just based on the band graphic quality I'd say it's likely to be more recent production--early 90s onward. Obviously 2002 production at the latest.
ChanceSchmerr Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 Davidoff shop in London had some when i got here to London last year. The only i bought smoked okay, taste nothing special. JJ fox now has some singles from an 80s box for sale as well. I havn't tried one of theirs yet.
MPS Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 These are great cigars! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
