rmill3r Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 I've been looking more forward to this and Macbeth this year than Star Wars, to be perfectly honest, so now that I finally saw it, thought I would make a post for it all on its own.... I thought it was fantastic, cheesy, campy, b-movie fare. It's clearly a mix between comedy and horror, but I was really happily surprised that nothing was "outright" funny about it. Like, aspects of it were funny--such as the ridiculous circumstances of the plot itself--but nothing in the movie felt like, "All right...here come the jokes. Here's where you laugh." Instead, it also treated its horror elements with respect. It was cheesy and campy but it was still trying to be frightening, and I think it did it very well. On a side note, the blizzard outside the main characters' house looked fantastic. It's weird to compliment a movie's use of snow but it was just quite impressive. And the make-up, costumes, and special effects of the various creatures (including Krampus himself) were appropriately creepy. I find it says a lot when a movie avoids using too much cgi in today's day and age. It really pays off on the scares and "wtf" factor. Anyone else see it? Have any thoughts? 1
