LLC Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 I have a couple of very nice briefcases but I am looking for something a bit bigger to use when I travel. My briefcases are on the small side and I end up cramming stuff into them when I'm traveling for business which seems to be all the time. I'm leaning towards a Tumi and curious who else is using a Tumi backpack, which one and what they like and don't like about it. TIA.
Phinz Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 I've had a couple Tumi products (admittedly not the one you're looking at) and never found the price/quality ratio to be favorable. I moved to Timbuk2 for all my backpacks, messengers and luggage and have never looked back, I can't imagine buying from another source, as their bags and service are just so well designed and dependable. Not sure if Timbuk2 fits your design esthetic, but I highly recommend. 1
Rushman Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 Been looking for a new laptop and work travel backpack for some time. Problem is I wanted one that wasn't too bulky. Settled in the ebags tls professional slim backpack (not the weekender). Used it this week on travel and it's awesome. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
samyeung Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 I have a tumi alpha bravo , I like it a lot . I used to get other from mountain coop but those material tend wear out fast. I did get a timbuk2 from mountain coop to use as a carry on and back pack but in florida they actually make me check the size fo the bag cause it can carry a lot and it was over weight lol.
El Presidente Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 I have a Tumi Alpha Bravo Kingsville. It is my office + can carry enough gear for two-three days away. Bulletproof.

That is exactly what I ended up going with and it arrived today . At first look it seems exactly what I was hoping it would be.
Guest photorob Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 I have a Tumi Alpha Bravo - Travis....LOVE the thing! I like how this model opens for the front pocket, but you might have trouble finding one currently (got it a few years ago). Looks like a parachute pack with those two front facing leather handles IMO. I get a lot of compliments on it. http://gearpatrol.com/2012/06/20/tumi-alpha-bravo-travis-backpack/
SMQQKIN Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 IMHO Tumi's design, quality & durability is great. However, you will pay a premium for what you get.
LLC Posted December 22, 2015 Author Posted December 22, 2015 This is the one I ended up with. Pic is from the web site, I had mine monogrammed with my initials.
dflan82 Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 This is the one I ended up with. Pic is from the web site, I had mine monogrammed with my initials. We got this one for our previous Director as he departed for greener pastures...he said that it has been the best briefcase/backpacks that he has ever used. Also, one of my accounts is a Tumi dealer and this is one of their top sellers this year...New style is awesome! 1
Lotusguy Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 IMHO Tumi's design, quality & durability is great. However, you will pay a premium for what you get. Made in China now. I will never buy another Tumi.
LLC Posted December 22, 2015 Author Posted December 22, 2015 Made in China now. I will never buy another Tumi. Not sure if it matters but Thailand is where mine was made.
Lotusguy Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 Not sure if it matters but Thailand is where mine was made. I was looking at full size suitcases.
LLC Posted December 27, 2015 Author Posted December 27, 2015 I have a 15 inch ultra book and it fits easily. Can't say for sure but I think it would.
RijkdeGooier Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 The specs give the size as fitting a 15", which is to a 17" as a Dalia to a DC.
CigSid Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 Not sure if it matters but Thailand is where mine was made. I have (and love) a Kingsville in Hickory, and mine was made in Thailand as well...
SokaKiel Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 Made in China now. I will never buy another Tumi. I'm with you Claus!I just got my Alpha 2 Duffel replacement (warranty) yesterday. Lucky me, I got the first one for only around 450$ on Cyber Monday last year. About two month ago it lost one wheel, the rubber around the handle was split since half a year already. After loosing the wheel I send it in for repairs and they got back to me after three weeks telling me they can't fix it! Instead of my grey/orange colored one I've got a boring black one now. It came in the original box and it says made in China in big letters on it. Sorry what! A duffel that sells for around 750$, or almost 1000$ here in Japan, that's ridiculous! It's definately my last Tumi product!
