El Presidente Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Sent by an understandably nervous member. You call it ....Tobacco Beetle or Glue Mite (or something else if you have an idea). In the end the treatment is the same simply down to precaution. Still, give us your opinion. I have given mine but the more opinions the better
PapaDisco Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Well, based on the one tobacco beetle I've found in a stogie, I'd have to say that's not a tobacco beetle. From what I've seen they have a dark brown color and a distinct little oval beetle body. The thing in your pic looks more like a good old fashioned leaf scale pest. I didn't know tobacco had those.

westg Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 That's a mite all day long .....if you live in the cold put your box outside for an hr and they will fly away . Try this before freezing ..I have never encountered beetles ...and would only freeze if necessary..best thing about mites is they **** all over your cigars and make them taste better Mites are found on many many things ....don't worry about it to much 2
Fugu Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Couldn't give you a serious answer based on that picture. Even not possible (for me) to tell whether it's an insect/animal at all or a piece of dust/detritus. In principle - from the coloration - it could well be a beetle larvae in its early stage. My 2cts
Smallclub Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 - it could well be a beetle larvae in its early stage. Exactly what I thought…
ebhead Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Mite...dealt with those suckers a few years ago in my humidor. Let them run their course, it'll take a month or two. e 1
PigFish Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Riddle of the day: Mite it be larva? -Piggy 1
hellorockview12 Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 I've had those.... It was quite alarming the first time I saw them but after figuring out what they were I brushed all the cigars off, wiped down the humidor and forgot about them. Found one or two since but they eventually disappeared! Great educational post.
ebhead Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 I guess the question I should have asked, was it moving around? If so, then it's a mite...if not, not so sure then... e
TheLiquidGator Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Mite. Have had then twice over the years. Both times in boxes of Monte #4.
Munts Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 I would be more worried about the arrow shaped bit of mold on the cigar!!! 2
catawbamatt Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 It's a mite, I've found them in a couple boxes of mine and they do die on there on in a little over a month with no damage done to the cigars that I could tell. 1
SCgarman Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Beetles are usually a very dark color and stand out like a sore thumb. 1
Carpenter69 Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 There really is such a thing as a vegemite sandwich? That picture has answered so many questions.
Fugu Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Guys, are we talking about 'mites' or possibly 'book lice'?
Hoepssa Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Mite, just found them in several of my 14-15 product, throw to my freezer and it's ok. Though they're just mites, still worry about how to demolish them.
Smallclub Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Beetles are usually a very dark color and stand out like a sore thumb. The larvae that eat your cigars and make the round holes are white.
