I did hear back from the vendor and they did suggest I try one with no strings attached. I'd rather just send them back and maybe get a different factory.

Thank you all for the advice!

Class vendor! Thumbs up.

The bunching looks pretty good bar 2 which look questionable.

Gauging a tight/plugged cigar is relatively easy. Look for knots, weight in the hand (that comes with experience), foot etc.

It is not however an exact science. I have had cigars from the walk in that I picked knowing/thinking that they would have to be cut down or played with because they would be too tight or plugged. I am right most of the time but then comes the one that draws like a dream even though it had no right to do so. Flip side also applies. You have a cigar that looks and feels perfect but the roller has pinched/twisted the roll causing a blockage. You can't see that.

Prez is spot on. Looks can be deceiving. I would let them acclimate in the humidor for a week or two, just to make sure the humidity of the cigars has regulated. Then, clip and test the ones you think will be tight or plugged. If they are, don't smoke them and contact your vendor. If not, smoke away. I haven't had very many tight Cohibas.

(and I would also never 'suck' on the feet of uncut sticks unless they were my own, not those supposed to be returned.... blink.png ).

Yessss......I would have a problem with clients in my B&M sucking on the bottom of cigars and putting them back.

It may be a cultural thing but its not going to take off here in Woolloongabba any time soon lol3.gif

It's a bit like drinking from the bottle during a picnic; there's a "right" way to do it.

No one is supposed to put 1 cm of the cigar into one's mouth and leave saliva on the foot… frown.gif

Just as a note to the OP, I cannot remember for the life of me when the last box of CCs I purchased had more than two or three plugged cigars in it, and even that's very rare. The days of 20+ plugged sticks per box are thankfully back in the dark ages of 98-02. Just my experience over 300+ boxes since 02 but maybe others can corroborate this experience...

I know it can be nerve-racking when you drop serious coin on something like Siglo IV and you need to make the decision to return them then and there or roll the dice but don't be surprised when you get your replacement box and they appear to be identical to what you returned. Just rest assured that they're probably fine unless something's obviously wrong like they're bulging and hard as police batons.

As Rob said, even cigars that you pick up and think there's just no way they're going to draw well often do, and some that are soft and squishy and packed more loose are tight as hell.

Never seen or heard of that one confused.gif. Certainly not in my town. No disrespect Smallclub, but are you sure it's 'European' practice or is it a French thing?

No French Kisses pls.... innocent.gif

Ok, relieved to learn you kept your tongue in cheek....!

(usually, I don’t have difficulties in grasping your sarcasm, SC, but this was a tough one)
