I have some Sancho Panza Sancho going up today. The Code isn't all that clear but it the clearest of the lot. If you have a similar box in your collection, let me know what it is. I am in the warehouse (heading back today) and my references are back at the office. ok.gif

Good grief...

It doesn't precisely match any known date code but it's kinda close to the 1999 format...all I could say is that it's sometime in 1999. Best guess on the factory code is CFG (Cienfuegos) but even that's very questionable.

Anyone else?

Factory: REC (Sancti Espiritu in 1999/2000)

OOEO (for 1999) is a typo IMHO. Probably EOOO, ie Sept 99.

Good observation on the factory code. I think you're right.

I was thinking the same thing on the OOEO--probably supposed to be EOOO. Too much Havana Club for the stamper that day.

1999 - 2001 SP Sanchos were hit by the worst plug rate I have EVER experienced. 80%+ fallout. Absolute tent pegs.

Not even for free, no matter who looked at them.

Very true - for the most part. I had a '99 box from Czar actually, that had a better rate (only about 50% plug, and of those 5 plugs, 3 were smokable with some effort). Still......you're taking a bit of a risk.

I got half a dozen 14 yr old Sanchos from Rob and Smithy last year. To date they have been amongst the best cigars I have ever had. I have smoked 5, on special occasions only, and they are an experience to say the least.

Only 1 left.

So an 83% success rate, thus far.

I rehected near 30% of boxes in this batch. I was probably a bit harsh.

If in a box of 10 you can't get a hit rate of 8 out of 10 after inspecting them, then you are a nong.

I wasn't able to inspect for obvious reasons. I am also not the only one with this kind of experience with this particular cigar.

That said, I have no doubt that what you picked is the best of what is available.

Fair point and I certainly wasn't having a crack at yourself biggrin.png

Anything form those years I look at closely these days. those boxes have been with me for about six weeks but i only got the chance to look at them yesterday. I spend 45 minutes on them, removed the ones that I didn't like. Overall they were serioulsy good. I have seen plenty over the last 15 years that you can use as a baseball bat.

Half the battle is to receive pristine boxes and not ones that have been picked over in a B&M. The other part of the battle is to take the time and weed out the problem boxes and give a fair assessment.

From the aged stock received (various marques and cigars) there are plenty of different boxes that I felt uncomfortable in putting up. I will smoke through them myself over the years to come. Some I would have made a correct call on, others I will have proven to be too harsh. I would rather it that way.

The sad thing is, when they actually draw, those Sanchos are fantastic sticks (though too long for most of my available smoking time slots).
