Edrock80 Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Hey all, This is gonna be my first time visiting Whistler BC for a snowboard trip. Anybody know where I can smoke and or buy cigars in Whistler? It might be too cold to smoke cigars outside, but I do have some Partagas D6 for quick outdoor smokes... I hear the smoking laws are horrible in BC? Thank you! Eddie
CigarAsh Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 I was in Whistler about 4 years ago, before ski season. There were at least two decent cigar stores in the village. I was able to smoke in front of one of the stores (they had a few adirondack chairs out front) and the owner came out with me and poured me a scotch. Managed to smoke again in an open courtyard near my hotel (the Westin). No one bitched about it but me - and only because of the outrageous prices of cigars in Canada. I should have come better prepared!
LLC Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Still the two cigar shops in the village but smoking in front of them isn't allowed anymore. I normally have a cigar in a quite park in the area or the balcony if my hotel room. In the past I stayed at the Fairmont and they have a smoking area with a bench off the back patio area. As far as I know smoking in the actual village is not allowed but a local may be able to confirm or supply more options.
Edrock80 Posted November 10, 2015 Author Posted November 10, 2015 Thanks so much! I appreciate the info. I'll bring my own sticks but will check out the shops and probably buy a stick from one of them. I'll be staying near the Fairmont so that info was really great!!
as62109 Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 If you head in or out of Vancouver itself, hit up City Cigar (W 6th and Laurel). Been several times, very nice people. They used to have an indoor lounge a few years ago but it, and apparently all others in BC, are no more.
as62109 Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 Also, the expensive thing is no joke. Retail prices are upper-end thanks to VAT. No one bitched about it but me - and only because of the outrageous prices of cigars in Canada. I should have come better prepared!

Storage is perfect. There are weekly specials which will soften the blow a little.
headstand Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 Skied there 3 winters ago. Buddy of mine fires up a Cohiba Genios - in the lift line! What a commotion. The raging horde put an end to that pretty quick. Had that puppy burning again as soon as he got on the chairlift - goofy bugger. 1
Edrock80 Posted November 20, 2015 Author Posted November 20, 2015 Thanks again for the tips! @Headstand...I'd like to shake your friends hand!
MrGTO Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 When I lived in Tahoe, on a sunny day I'd take a back pack with booze + cigars and ski off piste then dig myself a chair and smoke & drink in the peace and quiet. It's magical to hear the wind thru the pines with a nice cigar and drink! 2
CigarDarr111 Posted November 22, 2015 Posted November 22, 2015 Cigar shop in the village called Castros Cigars of all names.. they actually got a box Monte No2 Gran Reservas there among with some other rare smoke.. Well stocked with Canadian prices to match. 1
Redsoxnat Posted November 22, 2015 Posted November 22, 2015 I live in Victoria BC. Not to far from Whistler. I can attest to the crazy laws around smoking in BC. The best suggestion would be to get a good travel case and bring your cigar favorites from FOH with you. The prices are insane in BC let alone Whistler. As to where to smoke. In a store or in front is out of the question. Laws and regulations basically prohibit it completely. I would say pack up a lovely flask of spirits and bring one or two cigars with you on the mountain or find a great spot in one of the park areas. Dress warm and have a proper winter cigar in Canada. A true test of how much you love cigars is smoking your favorite stick in Canada in the winter. Dress warm and join the club. Hope the trip is great. 1
AussieCanuck Posted November 22, 2015 Posted November 22, 2015 I live in Squamish ( 30mins south of Whistler). WB is pretty much smoke free (by law anyway). http://www.whistlerblackcomb.com/about-us/smoke-free There are two stores in town. Castros and the Whistler Cigar store. Both crazy expensive but a decent selection. To be honest, I'd consider your Whistler trip to be cigar free (to avoid disappointment). Come down the road and smoke one with me. As of last year we could still smoke on the heated patio at Chances Casino ( small gaming venue in town). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1
Edrock80 Posted December 1, 2015 Author Posted December 1, 2015 Thanks for all the info on Whistler and BC. I just got back...Cigar smoking culture is really underground...shame. In the whistler village I visited Castros Cuban Cigars. It's a shop with a small barber shop for cuts and hot shaves with a nice tasty selection of cigars. I didn't end up getting any but wouldn't be apposed to picking up some cigars that I have a hard time getting...they had some regionals and discontinued sticks on display...next time @AussieCanuk, I remember driving by the casino, I would have certainly stopped by for a smoke if I read this in-time...Next time I come up! Luckily our room had a balcony, was a bit of a challenge smoking in mid twenties weather, outdoor heaters are key. Best, Eddie
