aushy Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 I don't agree with the compulsory voting here in Australia. It doesn't really make sense in my mind. If people don't want to vote then it's highly likely they are unaware of current political issues and ill informed about each of the parties and what they stand for. Their vote is essentially random. The people that have an understanding of the parties will be much more likely to vote, regardless of whether it's compulsory or not. I think reducing the voting age to 16 would be a good idea, provided that it is not compulsory for people aged 16 and 17 and it's their own choice. IMO, a 16 year old that actually WANTS to vote deserves to have their voice heard.
fabes Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 I'll care about voting when we remove the Electoral College. Age for voting is not important for me. At 18 I thought I knew things. Then at 25 I thought I knew things, but realized how wrong I was at 18. Now at 32 I am seeing that I don't really know anything and that at 25 I was off my rocker. I bet when 39 arrives I'll at least have figured out that I didn't have it right at 32. 1
