Review: Cohiba Behike 52

Not sure of the box code because I purchased this cigar as a single a while back. This was my first Behike and man o' man, what an enjoyable cigar!

Appearance:

The cigar had a beautiful Colorado Claro wrapper. The cigar was well filled and firm to the touch from head to foot. There were a couple small veins, but even just taking a glance at this cigar it was more than obvious that it was meticulously constructed. The triple cap was finished with a nice pig tail and by all accounts this cigar was produced in a top notch factory.

Construction:

After snipping the cap, the draw was firm and perfect; not too much resistance, but like Goldie Lochs, it was just right. The burn of the cigar remained even and crisp throughout the entirety of the smoking experience.

First third:

The cigar opens with big woodsy notes full of cedar, roasted tobacco, and deep earth and forest. The draw is just perfect and the burn is crisp and true. There are finite moments of pepper and leather that coat the smoke. There are good amounts of smoke gathered from each draw and they easily coat the whole palate. I haven’t detected any sweet notes from this cigar. The flavor profile of this cigar to me is if you were to take all the unbridled rustic-ness of a forest, add in plush leather, copious amounts of cedar and wood, and then smooth it all out and refine it with smooth cream and Cuban barnyard accoutrements. This could only be accomplished in the same factory that would produce such master pieces as Ferrari, Maserati, and the like.

Second Third:

The second third continues with everything that made the first third worthwhile. The rustic nature is just slightly subdued by cream and leather, but the notes of cedar and wood are still very well pronounced. The ash fell just at the start of the second third.

Final Third:

The cigar stayed very consistent. The balance of cream, earth, and cedar was very pleasant throughout. I did have to touch up the cigar towards the end, but that was probably more operator error than any fault of the cigar. Wonderful stick, that was great all the way to the nub!!

Nice review. The BHK 52 and 54 are at the top of my "must try" list with the Sir Winston. One day...

I see that it didn't seem to have too many of the typical Cohiba flavours. Would you say it is similar to other Cohibas? How does it compare with say a CoRo in terms of flavour profile?

I see that it didn't seem to have too many of the typical Cohiba flavours. Would you say it is similar to other Cohibas? How does it compare with say a CoRo in terms of flavour profile?

I haven't had the chance to smoke many Cohibas yet. I have only had a Siglo I and a EL 2014. That being said, after smoking the cigar I looked up a good amount of other people's reviews and they seemed to talk about many of the same flavors that I tasted.

Sorry I couldn't help more with the comparison factor. I'm about ready to do a side by side review of a siglo VI tubo vs. non-tubo. So hopefully that will give me a better gauge of the typical cohiba flavor profile.
