500ft below the A380 would be an interesting video! Dodgy beluga.

Reminds me of O'Hare..................

I remember being in a holding pattern once going into KATL. Could see see planes below stacked, packed and racked.

Was on my check ride to get my single engine license with the instructor. We had just gotten up to the altitude/heading he told me to go and was asking questions.about separation. He then points out the other airplane that must have been every bit as close as thus just above me and to the left. I still passed. :)

VFR.....visual sep is a judgement call at best. Congrats of the success of your ride.

True, but the point was I didn't even see him and it was an angle more visible by the right seat than mine. Unfortunately, I haven't been up for over 15 years because of how expensive it got. Would like to get a new medical and get checked off again. It's an entirely different world now that everything has GPS and I was even working on ADF/VOR approaches when I was doing my commercial/instrument.

ILS and VOR are still around. NDB is rare. Common response to the question "What would you do if you were given an NDB approach? Declare an emergency!!!!

They are hacking them out but Australia still has a good amount of NDB approaches still. Shame the newer aircraft don't have them fitted (I'm relatively old school and even in modern airline cockpits think they have their place). Actually did a DME arc today using the RMI and none of that whizz bang stuff. Felt good!

Seeing as 'flying pucker factor' has been mentioned a couple of times, I present the following for BOTL pucker factor assessment.

To set the scene.......

I'm flying my Jabiru 230 light a/c and tracking south east on descent to 1000', while a Cessna 210 is tracking north on climb from 1000'.

Tangalooma is a resort on Moreton Island, to the east of Brisbane. Tangalooma resort also has an airstrip about 5nm north of the resort. I was tracking to fly overhead the airstrip then turn south.

A couple of miles west of the airstrip, I gave an 'overflying Tangalooma airport' broadcast, and the C210 replied that they were currently overhead Tangalooma and tracking north.

So ...... we both thought we'd be clear of each other.

Only problem was they were reporting overhead the resort, not the airstrip.

I couldn't see the other a/c but based on the position report, thought we were clear. A minute or two later I spotted the C210 and we were on rapidly converging tracks! I rolled right and missed them by what seemed like around 50 metres, at the same level.

Highly extreme pucker factor!

Here is a tracking video I saved afterwards, from Airservices Australia's website:

Crikey!

Good old Class G fun. I still think ADSB for lighties is a waste.

Flew over the old stomping grounds last week on a flight to Darwin. Close to 15 years and there's still the same regos overheard on the radio that I used to fly (C210). Probably bad form talking to a guy whilst in the air and telling him that the aircraft he's flying was a piece of cr@p way back when!

Who knew there were so many pilots here....I couldn't see the video, it had been removed.

Here's another one. Is that a tobacco field he sets down in?

Near miss with a skydiver
