Popular Post El Presidente Posted October 19, 2015 Popular Post Posted October 19, 2015 ' Enjoyed over the weekend a Rafael Gonzalez Lonsdale and a Saint Luis Rey Lonsdale. both were excellent, both very different. i was taken back to a time of the Upmann Lonsdale, Partagas Lonsdale, Sancho Panza/LGC/ERDM Lonsdales. La Esception, Bolivar it would be hard to find a vitola so decimated over the past 15 years. i could live on Lonsdales, Coronas and Corona Extras. Construction is indeed an issue for Lonsdales but with the right box there are few things close. I would take a box of Molinos/SLR Lonsdales/RG Lonsdales over a box of Partagas Gran Reserva any day of the week. 12
luv2fly Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 "i could live on Lonsdales, Coronas and Corona Extras." Got my vote! If construction is right, I would smoke them over any others. 3
ksblazer Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 I miss the lonsdale as well. They were some of my favorite cigars that were discontinued. Still pissed at Habanos about it. 1
Boosted Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 I'm a big lover of lonsdales. It's too bad that they discontinued almost all of them. Lonsdales/dalias are my favorite vitola followed by corona gordas. My first ever cigar was a Cuban Monte 1, and it was amazing. That first stick was what started my love for lonsdales. 1
kuma Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 I've been at this about 3 - 4 years (smoking) so I have not had the pleasure of enjoying the discontinued brands. So I guess only the Siglo V, LCG Med. d'Or #2, Monty. #1, Part. 898 and RYJ Cedros Deluxe No. 1 remain from the iconic size. Did I miss any?
Smallclub Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 Did I miss any? The RyJ Cazadore and the Fonseca No.1 (both Cazadores vitolas) are generally seen as lonsdales
topdiesel Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 Wish there were more. It is a great size. 1
JohnS Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 I could live on Lonsdales (42 rg x 165 mm), Corona Grande (42 rg x 155 mm) and Coronas (42rg x 142 mm) too!I have fond memories of the Montecristo No. 1, one of the first cigars I smoked...glorious! At least they are still around. And I had Sancho Panza Molinos recently, it's a shame they are gone like the others.
potpest Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 I wish there were more still in production. I love PCs but always wish they were a longer smoke Fantastic size, love the ring guage and the length. Had a very good 2009 Cedros Deluxe Nr1 over the weekend. Lonsdales and Lancerosin each marca would keep me happy forever. With the occasional DC thrown in for good measure.
dflan82 Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 Love the Lonsdale vitola both CC and NC. I'm doing my best to not plow through my box of Molinos. Wish there were still more like them available. 1
Habana Mike Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 Perfect size the Lonsdales. Dalias, Cervantes, Cazadores among my favorite vitolas. VR Clasicos, SP Molinos, Boli Inmensas, Partagas PdP No. 1 all sorely missed. Make do with Siglo V, Parti 898, LGC MdO #2, RyJ Cazadores, Monte #1 Boli GM, PL Encantos and the few remaining of those cut still on hand. 2
Jeremy Festa Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 Love Lonsdales. Prolly my favourite vitola.
investandprosper Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 Possibly the best cigar I've ever smoked was a Bolivar Lonsdale from 1998. You could put it side by side with butterscotch pudding in a taste test and one could not tell the difference, aside from texture =)
sheppsea Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 I have enjoyed all the Lonsdales I have smoked and am sorry that many have been discontinued The other thing to note about them is that I think they are the most elegant looking cigars - there is some distinctly classy about someone smoked a lonsdale
Overproof Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 100%. I'm very fond of my Boli Gold Medals.
luv2fly Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 100%. I'm very fond of my Boli Gold Medals. Loved the ones I had!
skalls Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 Only had a Monte 1, but have a box of Cazadores in the queue to be shipped and 2 boxes in the OHS that are lonsdale. Love the format. Not my favorite but in the top 5.
westg Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 Love them, my problem though is that I am a pig .....have to slow down a little more to really appreciate them
Blakes Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 i could live on Lonsdales, Coronas and Corona Extras. "i could live on Lonsdales, Coronas and Corona Extras." This ^^^ At least give us either a Lonsdale, Corona or Mareva for each marca for goodness sake! 1
Smallclub Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 Corona Extras (42 rg x 155 mm) This size is that of the corona grande, like the Siglo III, Hoyo des Dieux, the late Punch SS2, Quai d'Orsay grand corona, etc. "corona extra" is a vitola de salidad, sometime a "common name", but not a vitola de galera; for some reason it's used for corona gorda, Hermoso No.4, and corona grande, which doesn't make sense… As written in CCWS: “These terms are often loosely used and can cause confusion” 1
JohnS Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 As written in CCWS: These terms are often loosely used and can cause confusion I agree...these terms can cause confusion. I've altered my original post and had a quick look on CCW. The Coronas Extras term, as a common name, refers to cigars larger than 45 rg and not longer than 139 mm. But in my mind, and in concurrence with the theme of this thread, I intepreted the first post to be referring to 42 ring gauge cigars.
NCPANTHERZFAN Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 I'm becoming a big fan of the sub 50 ring gauge. 898's, Siglo V, Fundies are some of my favorites. I feel I get more concentrated flavor with this format.
