I love my NC's but I never go with the so called Cigars of the year but moreso, try and look for cigars that cater to my tastes and go from there. So far, I have chosen well. smile.png

Makes one wonder what these guys are thinking when they claim "Cigar of the year" more often than not they are MEGA strong and spicy.

Spot on Mika...I've had a few Alec Bradley Prensado Churchills and found them MEGA strong and spicy, as you've stated.

I've had a couple of the Prensado churchills and I'm not a fan. Too spicy and they were also wind tunnels.

I did really enjoy the Oliva Serie V Melanio which was named cigar of the year. Very enjoyable.

The Melanios are the exception as I too have purchsaed a couple boxes of these and I love them.

So similar to Padrons IMO, I also recommend the Oliva Serie V Double Robustos.

Strong and "spicy" was the trend in NCs several years ago, which is part of what made me look for ways to try Cubans. Having said that, I remember liking the prensado and tempus. When I started smoking cigars again I looked at those lists for ideas to try but I pay little attention any more. One example is the popularity of the aging room brand. Lots of folks like it, but to me it is nothing but a stomach churner with little flavor. To each their own. It's the same with Cubans though, I read a ton about how unfailing wonderful cohibas are, yet I've never had one that I thought was all that special. There are some excellent NC's that never make CA's radar.

The Prensados are merely okay -- some of AB's other lines are superior. The Tempus lanceros are difficult to find, but they are quite tasty.

I had a few when they first came out and quite enjoyed them. Tried one recently and had to pitch it; was nothing like I remember it. I've been smoking a few NCs recently for "a change of pace" and did have a family blend churchill that was an excellent smoke.

I remember the first Alec Bradley I liked. It was a principe sized cigar. All butter and nuts.

That cigar held its own among the best in the world. Recent offerings have left me a tad underwhelmed.

Do you happen to remember which AB it was mate? There's so many

Prensados are about the only AB cigars I do like. I haven't smoked more than 5-6 of them, and they've all had burn issues, but the flavors were rich and smooth.

I actually enjoyed the Alec Bradley Prensado cigar I smoked about three years ago. Very nice and flavorful IMHO

Tried to stomach the so called cigar of the year 2011 on more than one occasion all I get is wet dog and cardboard.

Bro, feel free to send the rest of them my way. lol3.gif

I didn't get this being COY but with a little downtime to smooth things out a tad, they were ok. Not great but ok.

I hate when a product finally becomes popular and then quality goes downhill. Greed supersedes brand reputation and quality.

+1 on the Melanios. Oliva knocked it out of the park with those.

Probably my favorite NC. Although I have experienced some duds from the line. I have a box of the petite cornona that smoke hot and harsh. Time has not been kind to them either. Maybe a storage problem before they got to me.

There's rumor going around about the factory Alec Bradleys are made (Raices Cubanas in Honduras). Mostly the movement of the nicaraguan tobaccos that Aganorsa supplied them with for many years is all being moved to the TABSA factory in nicaragua as a result of many factors including Alan Rubin of AB creating blends using their tobacco by way of the factory owner without consulting said provider. Lets just say the Prensado you smoked recently is not the same Prensado of 2011 as different nicaraguan tobaccos are incorporated into the blend now.
