PointFivePast Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 Hello all! Being relatively new to CCs, I'm still finding my stride. I do notice, however, that one of the aspects I enjoy about them is their creamy sweetness. I do not often find the same levels of sweet cream, buttercream, honey, molasses, brown sugar, etc., in NCs as often I do in many CCs. Of course not all are this heavy in the dessert flavors, but I do believe that these sweet and delicious flavors seem to be present in many Cubans, sometimes in spades. I'd like to try some more of the "dessert" cigars that Cuba has to offer. The closest I've had was a Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure Especial. In it I found loads of cream, sweetness and some hints of dried fruit and/or fruitcake, possibly even pistachio at the end. Absolutely gorgeous. Not sure of the box code as it was gifted to me but I think I'd like to explore this route a bit more. Cigars that just ooze sweetness, cream, chocolate, jammy fruit, syrup, molasses, honey, what have you. Any recommendations for the absolute best dessert cigars?
Scrubber Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 I can't be too much help as I'm still new myself but I had my first por laranaga petite corona last week and it was beautiful. Loaded with caramel notes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1
El Presidente Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 San Cristobal in the Principe, Punta and Fuerza are some of my favourites. Loads of molasses on those with Rosado wrappers. Romeo y Julieta Exhibicion Number 4. HDM Epicure Especial Aged (7 years+) Hoyo De Monterrey le Hoyo Des Dieux. 3
MIKA27 Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 I agree with the San Cristobal La Punta, brilliant cigar for after dinner.
JohnS Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 I think El Presidente summed it up for me. As Scrubber as mentioned, I'd only add the Por Larranaga staples such as the Petit Corona or Montecarlo, but after aging 3 to 5 years to savour the wonderful caramel profile. PointFivePast Posted September 7, 2015 Author Posted September 7, 2015 Fantastic, thanks for the recommendations! JohnS, good call on that thread. I got so fixated on dessert I didn't even think to search "sweet" in general. I've wanted to try the PLPC for a while so it sounds like a cab might be in my future. While they're aging I'll have some time to dig in to the San Cristobal lineup. 1
Havanaaddict Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 If you like sweet I have found that the fresh Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No.2 (Cab) Have a great sweet woodieness. Or the Cohiba Siglo II's have a great rich sweet taste!!!
phlee Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 I like Juan Lopez no 2, epicure 2, PSD4, CoRo and sometimes even a Romeo wide Churchill after dinner
mgravito Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 Put me down as another in favor of the SCdLH El Principe. There's something very decadent about that cigar. 1
treberty Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 If it's after lunch... why not El Rey Demi-tasse.
Lant63 Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 San Christobal Torreon Sent by telepathic super powers -Stogie Boy 2
finecigar Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 I would say LGC MdO No. 1, 2, 3, or 4 with a 3-5 years of age or more. Loads of complex layered flavors. Also IMO Trinidad Fundadores is a elegant dessert cigar with honey all over it!
Smallclub Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 I like Juan Lopez no 2, epicure 2, PSD4, CoRo and sometimes even a Romeo wide Churchill after dinner If it's after lunch... why not El Rey Demi-tasse. A cigar is not called "dessert cigar" because you smoke it after a meal. As the OP said, it's an especially sweet and rich cigar. San Cristobal Muralla for me.
Coolio Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 I love an Upmann PC after dinner. I've had a couple of lovely dark and oily boxes of these, and I seem to get a biscuity/shortbread type flavour from them. Alongside a port or muscat, I'm in heaven.
