El Presidente
Which Cuban Cigar Ages Fastest? I get the above question at least once a week from newcomers to Cuban cigars. It is a fair question given my recommendations normally are 3-5 years aging on many cigars to begin to approach their best. Patience is not always a virtue however I would turn around the question from "Which Cuban Cigar Ages Fastest" to "Which Cuban Cigar develops to near it's optimum in the least amount of time" In your experience then........"Which Cuban Cigar develops to near it's optimum in the least amount of time" I will use this thread as part of my answer in future. I appreciate your input
Rye
Saint Luis Rey Regios for me needing only travel acclimation. Hoyo Epi2 after 6 months where I find the rest of the Hoyo lines require significantly more H Upmann Connie A's if not too wet at time of purchase are ready to go around 3 months. I like fresh PLPC almost as much as well aged ones. Vegueros Mañanitas and tapados are both nice early on.
zrotfus
Bolivar PCs seem to hit their stride right out of the gate. A few weeks rest and good to go.
treberty
Rob; how about we try to come up with and ageing diagram by brand - just like those for wines? Wouldn't be perfect, but probably good rules of thumbs! We just need to get everyone's insight - so much knowledge and different tastes on this board...
treberty
Most R&J - except the Caza - reach their full potential quickly (<12 months), IMO.
targa88
HdM Epi #2 RyJ Ex#4 PLPC RASS All seem to be good out of the gates. However, can develop well with some extra time...
RWhiz
Man, I saw the thread title and instantly though, any CC which travels at near the speed of light will age the slowest, so relatively speaking the CCwhich travels through time slowest. Then of course the question was clarified. Anyhow, in my limited CC experience, RASS.
Popular Post PigFish
The Cubans cannot even make a cigar that tastes the same, box to box, year to year... Lets just say, I have more faith in the weatherman. How about this, politicians are more reliable... What I am saying is this is a ridiculous question with no quantitative answer!!! No offense meant to all of you that believe in this hocus-pocus, just my 2 cents, take it for what it is worth. Now be prepared to have just about every cigar in the catalog mentioned! Cheers! -The Pig
dvickery
Good question ... One I can only answer obliquely . To me ... 5 packs ... age faster than Dress boxes ... age faster than Boîte natural ... age faster than Cabs ... age faster than Varnished boxes ... age faster than Tubos Others opinions may vary Derrek

suggs
I think there's a correlation between ring gauge and how quickly a cigar reaches its peak. PCs and panatelas seem to be great ROTT, but once you start getting past say 44 or so, they need some time. Tyler
PapaDisco
How about the one that parties every night until 4 a.m., drinks too much, never works out and only eats junk food?

Specifically, ligero leaf takes more time to reach peak flavor and smoking quality, whereas thinner leaves lose flavor over time more quickly. Perhaps the better correlation is the ratio of ligero to other kinds of leaf in the cigar.

BonVivant
it all depends on the brand and/or packaging - different results across the board, including packaging options For example: Trinidad survives in paper and Cohiba does not
LGC
Easy... any weak blend stored at 75% and 80F. Like Ray said, anyone that can make predictions about all 25/50 sticks in a box should be able to become a billionaire off of the lottery.
airtrade
Hmmm, so what cigars do not benefit from at least 3-5 years age? Any more answerable?
luv2fly
To me, the Petit Corona is good 1 to 2 years out. Some with just 6 months. I have some BPC that have about 4 years on them and they are fantastic. May need to look into longer aging but I just can't help myself. I have also had Monte Tubos from the early 70's. Totally different ball game. I do not have the patience to age that long.
