So I'll be up front here.

I don't follow the NRL here in Oz (I'm AFL born and bred), and have a limited understanding of the NFL. However I've been fascinated with Jarryd Hayne's journey so far.

He's now made the final 53 for the 49'ers, but I understand this does not necessarily mean he'll see game time straight away?

He's big news here, and now with one of our free to air stations (73 Mate) televising 3 games a week I believe, hopefully they'll include the 49er games so we can watch Haynes.

In what position does everyone think he'll see most game time?

And is he in the final 53 because he does have a real future in the NFL, or because the 49'ers see some marketing potential in his no 38?

I personally don't think it's marketing (unless it's for global marketing). I don't think many people in the US care or even know he was a rugby star. He's a phenomenal athlete and they will try to find a place for him I imagine. Not sure how much playing time he'll see this year if any unless it's mop up time in a blowout

To make the 49ers 53-man roster is a miracle in itself. To have a spot as a running back is even more miraculous as the team had 4 guys that were established. Now 2 of those guys are cut. If Hayne has a running back/specialist punt return role from hereon in, he would have gone far beyond his dream. Congratulations to him for not giving up!

His playing time will come primarily as a return man imo. His greatest asset is that he is not afraid of contact and unlike almost all other return men in the NFL, once he catches the ball, his first step is forward and not lateral. There is some concern over his ball control though. I live in Sacramento and listen to KNBR, the flagship station for the 49ers every day.

He's done a fantastic job to make the 53 man squad. I'll admit I doubted he could make the team. He is an amazing athlete but I thought the transition to a completely different sport would take a couple years.

I'm now officially on the Hayne train (band wagon). Congrats and good luck to him. I'll be following his progress with great interest.

Madden said, and I think it's a very good point, (paraphrasing here) "If the 49ers didn't put him on their roster, then another team would have picked him up after what he's shown in the preseason" so they almost had to put him on the roster. He definitely earned that spot though.

Good luck to him. It's funny some of the comments in this country (Oz) compared to the U.S.

I do wish him well, but it annoys me the lack of

Coverage the other Aussies flying the flag or trying super hard are getting.

He's done a fantastic job to make the 53. I was hoping he would be cut and picked up by the Texans ( lol give me a reason to watch them ). I think he might see the odd 3rd down play at RB, but I think most of his game time will come on special teams in his first year.

As a Niner fan, yes a Niner fan in NY, very happy to see him make the team because he's really earned it with on the field play. He will be on special teams for the most part as mentioned. Fun to watch on kick returns. Good vision. Will learn the game as he goes and get better and better, lowering his shoulders, etc.

We live in the San Francisco bay area and I have seen a couple of the Niners games. He made the roster because he deserved it. Not at all an issue of marketing, just a great athlete who made himself into a guy who has a chance to be a good NFL player.

I saw him during the first preseason game against the Texans. I was very impressed with his speed and athletic ability. I'm glad he made the 53.

I saw him get tackled i think against the Cowboys, where he was brought down by his face mask. Is this what running lower helps prevent?

He's used the fend off to good effect so far. Obviously something he used all the time in the NRL here.

im a niners fan and we can't go as bad as last year,i didn't think hayne would make it and it was just to get out of his eels contract and sign with the roosters

Good luck to the fella, Good to see an old Cabramatta boy make some big strides in the world.

I have to say if you make the cut in the NFL your a 1%er. It takes amazing talent to make any team in theNFL.....Even the Redskins :)

Ill admit i had my doubts he would make it. He has earned that spot, defiantly wasn't due to marketing IMO. I think he will get very limited downs this year but will grow as a player and will end up 1st string either with 49'ers or elsewhere. Big call, but im sticking to it...He has blown me away to be honest.

All aboard the Hayne Plane!!

As an Aussie I have loved watching him play NRL. A phenomenal athlete and dynamic and strong runner. Will he make it in regular NFL season with full strength rosters? I hope he makes an impact, only because he left an easy job here and risked everything to follow his dream. A great story for that reason alone

Bugger not the start he was looking for next play for him will be better.

I hope!

Niners fan here. Yes, that was as bad a start as he could've had, but at least it wasn't as bad as Jameis Winston's first NFL throw.
