dangolf18 Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 What is the best malt you've had so far in 2015? I don't open a whole lot of bottles ever year, but for me it was a signatory bottling of Mortlach 18 year old. Looking forward to hearing what great bottles you guys have been drinking!
westg Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Laphroaig PX cask tastes like pure butterscotch, very enjoyable 1
westg Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Haven't tried that one, but now you've left me curious. I think its duty free exclusive
Destino30 Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 It's not high end or exotic in any way but on a recommendation I bought this Highland called Edradour. Frankly it's terrific. Sweet if you're into that flavor profile. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
jabster Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 Kavalan solo vinho barrique was pretty amazing, though I don't like that it's got the best in the world tag! Heartwood devil in the detail was amazing (aussie independent bottler)
RWhiz Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 Tie between Lagavulan 16, when I'm in the mood for an Islay, and Dalwinne 16 when I'm in the mood for a Highland. 1
PointFivePast Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 The Balvenie Caribbean Cask 14. I'm a rum man at heart and so the hints of molasses and spice won me over.

sastrooper Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 Kavalan solo vinho barrique was pretty amazing, though I don't like that it's got the best in the world tag! Heartwood devil in the detail was amazing (aussie independent bottler) Agree with you on the vinho mate, my favourite drop to date this year, the 58.6% was a stunner, having said that, i've a mac18 1995 vintage ive yet to open ... 1
Surucipe Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 Lots of really good ones to choose from but if I had to pick one then I would say Ardbeg Uigeadail, stunning. Strange that my choice turns out to be a NAS but there you go. 1
Guest rob Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 Not overly expensive, or special - but Glengoyne Cask Strength (batch 001) really floated my boat. Amazing value. And like Surucipe above - I am surprised that my favourite whisky all year has been a NAS.
Rye Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 I am near finishing an OMC bottle of Bruichladdich 20 year that has been stellar for me. If I based it on consumption my prize would go to the Bowmore 12 year, same as the year before, and a dozen years before that.
skalls Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 Single sherry cask kilchoman from their first year. Bloody brilliant stuff.
sengjc Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Best so far in 2015 would be the SMWS 119.14 bottling of Yamazaki - only one that comes to mind, probably because it is the most recent outstanding whisky.
TM-US Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 I'm really not trying to show off, but foe me, the best this year was a 52 yr. old Macallan 1946. Amazing stuff, so tasty while nuanced and delicate. Not too oaky, rich sherry flavors and a very nice touch of peat smoke- the only vintage that has this. A friend of mine and I speculated that the peat may have come from fuel shortages post-war that forced them to use peat to run the stills, as coal or gas may have been in short supply at the time, considering how much bomb damage occurred to Great Britain during the war. wolfain Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 I'm slowly sipping my Yamazaki 25 lol ever since the price got blown way out of proportion. But price wise, glenmorangie signet is superb. Very strong dark choc notes. Laga16 and laphroaig18 are islay classics. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

ChanceSchmerr Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 Tie between three - Ardbeg 1974 (2002 Italian bottling) Laphroaig 10yr (1960s bottling) Lagavulin 1991 vintage (2015 Feis Ile bottling) All three were life-changing malt! 2
JamesNYC Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 It's a toss up between a single cask Arran 17 yo Sherry cask and 22 year old Dufftown, all cask strength
JohnS Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 Best Malt whisky? A boring choice I know but I'd have to say Lagavulin 16. 1
Joker Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Also Lagavulin 16 It has the right balance of peat for my tastes (find Ardberg & the like too peaty) & a wonderful lingering aftertaste Cheers 2
westg Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Also Lagavulin 16 It has the right balance of peat for my tastes (find Ardberg & the like too peaty) & a wonderful lingering aftertaste Cheers a bacon sandwich as Clive would say..I agree 1
