Fosgate Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Just a quick question, I love the La Punta for it's flavor and burn but I really like double corona's in my hand and they I just seem to enjoy them longer. How does the El Morro from San Cristobal compare to the La Punta? Or is there maybe a different double corona I should be chasing?
Habana Mike Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 El Morro has its own character though generally in line with the La Punta. Per your question on other Prominentes, I'm more partial to the Lusitanias, BCG, VR DA, SLR DC and HdM DC in approximately that order based on my smoking experience and tastes. 1
JohnS Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 There's some great discussion on San Cristobal de La Habana here... http://www.friendsofhabanos.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=123127 I love the El Principe (as do others) but the larger SCdLH cigars sadly don't have the same following. I agree with the idea, in the thread quoted above, that a larger panatela cigar (38rg x 192mm) would be great. One could dream I suppose!
airtrade Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 They seem very similar maybe a bit less rich.
Piligrim Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 Have you tried Oficios and Mercaderes? Those are LCDH Отправлено из моего iPad используя Tapatalk
nick2021 Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 Love the el morro----good cigar. Wish I had brought some with me to the sandbox
mk05 Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 El Moro is a very rich cigar, and extremely tobacco sensitive. Color and/or smell will give zero indication if it will be good - just the year, it must be a good year. There were only three good years for SCdlH since creation. The rest was rather unsmokeable.
earthson Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 They need several years of aging, but the Ramon Allones Gigantes is my DC or choice BY FAR!
Smallclub Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 There were only three good years for SCdlH since creation. The rest was rather unsmokeable. What are these years Mark? (I haven't even tried a Moro since the early 2000's, when they tasted like hay...)
mk05 Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 1999, 2002/3, 2005. 2013 is still marinating - too early to tell.
Fosgate Posted September 12, 2015 Author Posted September 12, 2015 Thanks! I wound up deciding on a box of La Punta, box of HDM Epicure Especial, Box of RJ Wide Churchills (just love that one) and of course prez tossed it on the 24:72 a box of SCDLH La Fuerza (Missed the HDM Epicure ESP in there)
PigFish Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 I believe the La Punta to be singularly unique. I like them as well. -P
Habana Mike Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Singularly unique? Isn't that like a double negative?
PigFish Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Singularly unique? Isn't that like a double negative? ... you have a point there. I do have a special tool to help you remove it from your scalp without losing much hair!!! -LOL Did I tell you that I was the inventor of dehydrated water? I thought you might find it interesting...! -R 3
Colt45 Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Singularly unique? Isn't that like a double negative? Did I tell you that I was the inventor of dehydrated water? A party fiesta!
PigFish Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 A party fiesta! Mate... it is fiesta party! Got it?
Destino30 Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 With all due respect to some of the less than complimentary comments on SCDH, I enjoy each of them greatly, even the more recent production. I find the El Morro more in line with the La Punta, and the La Fuerza to be much stronger. My El Morro are all 2012 and smoking beautifully. The LCDH (e.g., Mercaderes) I find to be on the lighter side. If you get a chance try a Torreon from the jar. Quite different from the others. I've only had one so far.
