El Presidente Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Have been having a cracking little love affair with Bolivar Tubos No 1 of late. I know a lot of members on here have a great deal of love with Punch Coronations. I have tried quite a few and have had some hits but a few too many misses. In the world of tubos....what have you really enjoyed recently? i would like to explore some of your recommendations. Cheers
treberty Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Maybe it's just me, but I have always thought that putting cigars in an fancy aluminum tube was a way to sell below average quality cigars at a premium price. Also - and again it might just be me who's crazy - but I've always believed that a tube and a cedar leaf absorbed whatever richness is left in what I believe to be below average quality cigars. In short, I have never been a fan of tubos, so I can't help you - only good at ranting... That said, one of my employees gave me a Partagas Corona Junior today so I guess I'll smoke it... for the sake of science of course. 1
airtrade Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Boli RC Tubos and Partagas Corona Senior have been quite tasty for me.
ralphie48 Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Not sure how under the radar it is but I can't put down the bolivar rc , I just picked up 3 more Boxes of 10. All of the wrappers have been beautiful and dark and the aroma is out of this world. I've had brc non tubos and they did not compare. I could've just been lucky but all Boxes thus far look the same. They are all ULA box code but dates vary (don't have boxes in front of me to verify dates)
Overproof Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 If family or friends pass through duty free I always have them get me the Boli 1s if available. I'm yet to have one that I've really disliked. Considering some of the storage conditions there kept in, that's a good thing.
dangolf18 Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Punch Coronations and actually the RyJ No.2. Strong little cigar.
JohnS Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 I have enjoyed Punch Coronations and Cohiba Siglo II tubos in the past. Like you say, Rob, they can be hit and miss. I can't say I've ever greatly been enthused by Romeo y Julieta No.1's or No.2 tubos. However, if you have any of those lovely Bolivar Tubo No.1's left, I'd gladly come to the party!

Hohenthal Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Only a few Boli 3'2 and Punch C., all very good - one Magnum 46 was horrible. The only one I've had more experience with (different boxes from different production / years) was Romeo #2. My impressions were that the tube puts the breaks on the ageing process and not only "mellowing" is slowed down but also any sick or dead period is extended quite a bit. As an example, 2 excellent boxes of early 08 productionn started out very good, fell asleep after about 6 months and did not see their comeback untill more than 1 1/2 years later. By comparison, other '08 (dress boxes) needed but only a few months to get over that dead/sick period. IMHO, this might be the key to the very mixed reviews of tubos in general - but anyways, if you have some patience with them, they can be a treat. Cheers, Alex

garbandz Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Boli Tubos 1 can be amazing....... Upmann coronation major and Hoyo coronations..........both are regulars in my rotation. I hate that they seem to be seasonal or erratically produced.......
Duxnutz Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Had a Boli. No.2 recently. Tasty smoke indeed and ROUND!
joeypots Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Most of my tubes are cigars people have given me and I mostly have left them in my humidor un disturbed to see how they age in the tube.I had a H Upman Coronas Major a few months ago. I had this cigar for years and smoked it on a whim while driving. Wow, one of the all time best. I don't know if it was a fluke, my mood or that I had stumbled on to something great but the toasted Upman tobacco aged for a long time in that tube was terrific. A five pack of Monte Cristo Petit Tubos met with rave reviews when I passed them out at a party a year ago. Probably about 7 years old at the time. A couple of guys who said they didn't care for Cuban cigars admitted that they finally "got it". Psd #4 and Upman Mag 50 tubos from 2010 have been nothing special.
vavrekjjj Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 I agree with BRC ... i have few boxes of ten from AUG 13 ARG and these are perfect... also nontubos ULA JUL 14 are nice but not so...
smokeyjoe01 Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Big tubos fan here HU MAG50 from 2010 are outstanding Boli #1 from 2007 superb Cohiba siglo II from 2008 awesome Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Professor Twain Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Bolivar Tubos #3. In my experience, the most powerful Bolivar. Great flavor and they develop lip numbing tobacco kick with age. Great value as well
treberty Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Reading the posts I am starting to think I should revisit tubos!
maxcjs0101 Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 One of my mates tried an aged Partagas DeLuxe tubo as his first real cigar and it was a slippery slope for him since. hahaha
Rye Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 I recently smoked an H Upmann Coronas minor gifted to me by the great @Melies and it was superb. Well aged mind you, but a fantastic cigar. If I could be guaranteed good draw on these, which I've had a few bad examples in the past, I'd buy cases! Wicked little smoke and I nubbed this one until my fingers burnt. 3
topdiesel Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 In addition to the 1, I love the Boli 2 & 3. Fantastic smokes. Recent Boli 2's from OGA 12 and Boli 3's (thanks prez) from ULA 14 have been outstanding. Also love the cohiba siglo V tubo.
