Somm - Documentary

Recommended Posts

Saw a trailer for this documentary and wondering if anyone has watched it yet.

I know it's wine and not cigars, but I wonder how the concepts translate across. Might interest those in the blind tasting competition

I saw this just last weekend. It was entertaining, a good glimpse into the effort required (and perhaps luck, or other factors) to become a Master Sommelier.

I think it shows that even for people who have demonstrated a certain amount of talent/ability for tasting wine, it is still incredibly subjective and difficult.

Its a broad generalization but I feel like cigars, worldwide, have significantly more in common with one another than wines do. The fact that many cigars from outside Cuba are composed of tobacco from multiple regions also confounds the issue. Is there any kind of cigar tasting organization out there?

I have watched it a while back and I enjoyed it. It shows, like archosaur stated, the tremendous efforts it takes to attain this level of knowledge. Quite interesting.

Minor points I didn't like.

Technically, I think the documentary looked semi pro ish. I am not super sensitive to that but some people are. Also the music was pretty bad lol
