Wasn't it just winter down under? Do you only have 2 seasons? No fall or spring? Interesting.

Typically a very short winter I presume? It's like that here in the Soutern U.S. We have a very short spring. Usually a week or 2. Lol. Then blazing hot.

Not really. This one has been mild, with a few weeks of very cold (relatively) weather. Summer heat will kick in around November and stick around until March.

I was driving one night home from work when I worked in hospitality so it was about 2am and no one on the roads when a massive huntsman ran across my windscreen on the inside , holy hell I screamed and stopped the car in the middle of the road, engine running and just freaking out. A couple of guys stopped and tried to find it but we couldn't so I had to drive home with the spider somewhere in my car.. when I finally got home I sprayed the whole car and found it dead the next morning .... the only good spider is a dead spider yes.gif

Ken,

What is the environment like where you live? Desert, forest, jungle (lol)? I'm sitting here reading this thread, and honestly thinking, holy s###!

The fact that you said you were thinking of putting your scorpion in a death match against that ginormous spider... That you have a possum living in your garage... And that the "largest" Python you've seen on your balcony was 13 feet!!! Holy hell, man. That means that you INTENTIONALLY keep a scorpion around, spiders are everywhere, and that it's quite possible that your balcony has seen an 8,9,10 foot Python as well.

In Arizona we have plenty of rattle snakes, scorpions, and scorpion wind spiders (which look like smaller versions of your spider), but I'll be damned if I'm trying to get near any of 'em.

I'm sincerely curious to hear more about this. Please share : )

i actually live in the suburbs of brisbane, though it is the "leafy, large acre (except me), bushy. area.

the scorpion is a pet. he is kept well secured. rarely see scorpions in the wild. no surprise as often can't spot mine in its small tank, such is the camouflage.

Some of the males are huge when they stand up. They can get pretty aggressive too. Don't want to get in their bad side.

Used to get small scorpions wandering around where I live back in the 90's. Now that most of the place is developed, I never see them any more.

Still get the occasional blue tongue lizard sun-baking in the backyard.

Stunted savanna. Spiderwebs everywhere. Thick covering of compost on the floor. The air is thick with insects. Snakes but mostly pythons. Healthy family of possums. Mice, scorpions, centipedes.

.....and then you go outside

Bloody brilliant
