Last week, it being Thursday, a few mates and I got together for lunch and a couple of wines. We do it every year (actually, a few times during the year as well), though this was a bit special.

Thought I might share the list of wines. We did it at Alto on the River at New Farm in Brizzy – always fabulous. The first half with the Burgs was a tasting, though there was no law against drinking a few on the way.

First bracket

Domaine Gros Echezeaux 2002

AF Gros Echezeaux 2005

Domaine J Grivot VR ‘Bossieres’ 2002 (was under the impression this was Premier Cru but apparently an entirely discrete Lieu-Dit made in a tiny quantity. Thrown in as something different for interest)

Second Bracket

DRC Romanee St. Vivant 1990

Marc Rougeot Dupin Romanee St. Vivant 1992

3rd Bracket

Leroy VR ‘Les Beaux Monts’ 2002

Leroy VR ‘Les Beaux Monts’ 2006

4th Bracket

DRC Richebourg 1980

Meo-Camuzet Richebourg 1998

DRC Richebourg 2001

Rouget ‘Cros Parantoux’ 2005

Leroy Richebourg 2009

5th Bracket

DRC La Tache 1985

DRC La Tache 1989

DRC La Tache 2000

DRC La Tache 2004

Anyway, then we thought we should have lunch. A mix of wines, no theme.

Bollinger Rose NV (Magnum)

JJ Prum Graacher Himmelreicher Gold Cap Auslese 2010

Trimbach ‘Clos St. Hune’ Riesling 1989

Bonneau du Martray Corton Charlemagne 2002 (Magnum) – even in this line up, this stood out as truly spectacular.

Raveneau Montee de Tonnerre 2002 (Magnum)

Chateau Beaucastel 1989 (believed 1989 – it was either 88, 89 or 90).

Brokenwood Graveyard Shiraz 1991

Giacomo Conterno Barolo ‘Cascina Francia’ 2009

Andrea Oberto Barolo ‘Brunate’ 2010

Guigal Cote Rotie ‘La Mouline’ 1981

Chateau Margaux 1957

Galatrona Petrola 2007 (Tuscan Merlot)

Doisy Daene Sauternes 2004

Thank god for Thursdays!

Mind you, you should see what happens on a Tuesday.

Ken, thanks for sharing that list of wines. Trully awesome. How was the Chateau Margaux 1957?

dead. or on last legs perhaps - it was still holding on but one of the lesser wines.
