Morning/Afternoon Everyone,

I am headed to Maui (Ka'anapali to be specific) and wondered if anyone knows of any cigar friendly locations. I live in California and think Maui may be worse on cigar smokers than here (hard to believe it could be possible).

Looking for any bar, restaurant, patio, park, sandbar, corner of a parking lot, etc that is cigar friendly. I am bringing my own sticks so don't need to buy but would like to enjoy one every now and again.

I did a search but didn't see anything right on point. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Yes, very difficult to find anywhere to comfortably enjoy a cigar.

Smoking is illegal at Hawaii Beaches, Parks, and Municipal Golf Courses. Golf courses! shead.gif

I think private courses are still OK.

Not allowed on balconies (unless there is space at least 20 feet from any doors or windows), almost any public place with a roof or overhang and at least two walls (balconies again as well as many outdoor sections of bars or restaurants), restaurants, retail service establishments and retail stores - excluding retail tobacco stores.

Most major resorts do have a smoking area beachfront, typically on the edge of the property with perhaps a bench or two.

So you know, a person who smokes in an area where smoking is prohibited is guilty of a violation and can be fined an amount not more than $50 - worth the risk, your call. Marriott will charge you a $250 cleaning fee!

Smoking is still allowed in private homes and smoking rooms in hotels, luck finding those!

There's more info here that may be useful: http://hawaiismokersalliance.net/

All in all I think Brisbane is more accommodating and that's not saying much!

In Ka'anapali now and while beautiful, no smoking venues. Thinking seriously about retiring to the hotel parking lot. Only place to buy cigars is Foodland. They have a few Padron, Fuente, etc.

Thanks, Mike. Already smoked one. Been a couple of years since my last and I'm afraid they're still just so-so.

I was there in June and didn't smoke a single stick. :(

Just visited a laid back shop down the road in Lahaina, Sir Wilfred's. Respectable selections.

The guy told me that Maui basically has California's smoking laws minus the enforcement. Aside from the hotels and resorts, as long as you give people space, smoking outdoors is pretty much all you've got.

I was just at the Westin Ka'anapali couple of weeks ago. Although not technically allowed, I had no problem having a smoke on the beach every night I was there. Would get a scotch from the bar, take it to the beach with my cigar, and enjoy the warm weather and ocean sounds for an hour or so. Always had other people having their cigarettes on the beach too.

I was on Big Island in July and its the same issues.

smoking area was by the parking lot behind the hotel while the beach front area had empty deck chairs facing the surf.

I didn't end up smoking there or anywhere else. I have heard - though don't quote me on this. that if you smoke in the water then they cant fine you as technically the beach ends at the water line whereupon it becomes Federal jurisdiction.

Marriott Ocean Club in Ka'anapali. One of the smoking areas is two benches under shaded palm trees about 10 feet from the water. Right on the Ocean Walk in front of the Molokai Tower of the Marriott. I can see if from my balcony. I will be there shortly (unless the mai tai gets me first)...then it will wait until tomorrow.

Here until the 16th.

That's exactly one of the benches I was thinking of in my post. Smoked a few right there a while back ok.gif
