ayepatz Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Made it to Portugal - drove straight through the night. I am BEAT. Didn't bring cigars - I want to try Rye's suggestion but I think my wife may not appreciate the smoke in the car when she has no escape LOL! Going to eat, sleep and start driving back in.......12 hours. Yikes! Hang in there, brother!
Ramrod918 Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 I drive 14hous straight to the hunting cabin each year, sometimes twice to pickup the meat from the butcher (would usually take it with me but he makes dam good stuff!) Anyways best advice I can give you is do as much of the driving during daylight hours, Im talkin leave when its dark out if possible. Night driving strains your eyes badly, and makes it torture after awhile...
ChanceSchmerr Posted August 13, 2015 Author Posted August 13, 2015 We're back. What a difficult drive - and I'm still incredibly incensed at the disgraceful and appalling French greed with their toll highways, but I'll make a separate post on that. Suffice to say we paid over €200 in highway tolls overall, and most of that was in France. I will never ever EVER use a French motorway again without confirming the price and if there isn't a way to get there without needing to take a second mortgage out. I'm completely exhausted - going to go sleep for a couple days 1
ayepatz Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 You made it though, dude. Nice one. PS How was Eurotunnel? Heading back to England in 10 days.
wabashcr Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 Glad you made it safely. Curious what your experience was like crossing through Calais, and any evidence or impact of the migrant crisis.
