Hey guys, does anyone know how the upmann mag 46s from 2005 are smoking right now. Contemplating some aged stock, but I've only ever got stuff plus or minus two years old. Box codes are either, EAM, LWI, SXF, or TPX, or ZFI.

Not sure if it's worth it just to try something that's 10 years old or not. Thanks for any help or advice!

I had quite a few of them back in the day and they are worth your time. You're looking at the 15 packs I presume. Good sticks, great flavors!

have tried 7 or 8 diff codes, all were very nice.

not strong cigars,attenuated and gentle.

best construction of any group I have seen,no plugs among 10 boxes.

SXF was my fave code,May or June............TPX was good too.

nice range of wrappers among these too, from khaki green to colorado to almost maduro.

Bland, with a delicate note of carboard, as already stated in the 92 threads about these… lol3.gif

(The spaniards didn't want them for a reason, after all…)

Thanks guys, I was worried they would be bland but from the sounds of it may be worth a try. And yes they are the 15 count boxes.

Thanks gents!!

I've got a box from 04 and while it certainly is on the mild side it is quite nice. Perfect cigar on that relaxing afternoon with a beverage while contemplating life and the mysteries of the universe.

It was very mild but did get a lot better 2nd third onwards quiet complex

BTW my sample was a 25 count cab that was purchased from Dubai duty free. Their storage conditions are probably a bit hit and miss, i've seen some really wet stuff and some really dry stuff in there. The wrappers look terrible and don't have too much aroma, but construction for me has been spot on so far and each smoke has been consistent. Despite all this they still came out alright. Not mind blowing by any means but still a nice smoke.

I would recommend them to a specific audience: those that are relatively new to habanos, but not total newbies. If you have a few recent production boxes in your humidor but have never really gotten to try anything aged, go for it.

These have been around for a while, and if they were truly magnificent, you better believe they would be gone by now. The guys with the big bankroll have been going deep elsewhere. That doesn't mean they are bad, just know that you haven't found some secret motherload that has slipped under everyone's radar.

Yea I figured you guys were all aware lol. Just wasn't sure if it was a good place to start. I don't have the bankroll for most ages stuff I see. I'll just wait and see what pops up here.

Thanks guys,

Seth

You ask as many questions as you need to. The Search function is there but never feel like you can't post a general question. Most of the experienced members will be happy to help and the thread will assist many new members ok.gif

I've only had one of the 05s but found it to be to mild for my taste. I much prefer the younger boxes I've gotten from Rob.

"Mild Magnum 46" is theorically an oxymoron; after all the Mag 46 is supposed to be the tough guy of the Upmann team

Agreed 100%

I have been through two boxes and thoroughly enjoyed all but the first one. A friend gave me a tip of taking them out of the cardboard packs and store them next to the cedar lining in a humidor for about 3 months and the cardboard flavor would be gone. I did that with all but the first just to experiment; my friend was right, much better flavor after the waiting period..

Seth,

I have had 2 boxes of 25 of the SXF code and loved them,

they had "the legs" and I found them to be complex and rich despite a certain "lightness"

if compared to more recent examples.

However, it depends on the given box (some very tightly rolled exapmles) and,

if you refer to carton packs,

they might be past their prime.

Anyways, in the main 2005's have been nothing but good to me but I am aware to be in the minority on this.

Don't know if that helps...

Cheers, Alex

Nice enough smoke, much better than I thought. Perfect to give to non BOTL mates + for poker nights.

Make sure you do this though (i let them rest for 6 months):

........taking them out of the cardboard packs and store them next to the cedar lining in a humidor for about 3 months and the cardboard flavor would be gone. ...

I'm thinking about the same ones. Sounds like they're a pretty mixed bag...

I have some USE MAR 08 boxes scheduled to go up tomorrow. Definitely not the prettiest things I have seen.
