The veiled threat to the buyer to not expose this weasel on the internet is pretty funny. What exactly is he going to do about it?

I assume the seller would do the gentlemanly thing called for in such circumstances, namely unleashing biblical-styled plagues onto the misbehaving customer... First and foremost, the first stick out of every box shall be utterly plugged. Then comes the tobacco beetles in such numbers that the sun shall be veiled :P

may he come back in his next life as an innocent lion at a dentists' convention.

Funny how this wanker dentist guy comes to mind every time I see words like "scumbag", "butt hole" and worse. Every epithet well deserved. Perhaps the term 'Walter Palmer' will become synonymous with "a$$hole" someday soon. As to this thread, these guys are cheats.

Imo, the boxes are real which are recycled and the barcodes are removed.

I have seen these type of boxes in one of the retailers in my country.

Do you think the bar codes are removed? To me it looks like a tax stamp, not cut, but with the Barcode not printed at all.

I've gotten grey market before and the white part in these pics are "Cut Off" not just blank.

Also, and this I'm reaching for, but I've never noticed the tax stamp as "See Through" for the images underneath around the white border

Correct. There are decent grey market dealers around the world who cut off bar codes to protect the supplier.

This is on another complete level of duplicity.

As far as fakes go, I've seen worse. Although, 2014 Monarchs is a fairly lazy mistake for a faker.

If you're going to fake a cigar, as least fake something that exists in a real version.

A new low, I've haven't seen before, is that trumped up threat of an "anti-fraud" charge.

That is scummy.

One of my go to vendors removes the bar code. But does it really matter when the cigars are being shipped to the U.S. ??

They are considered contraband here so why protect the supplier?

I think the fact the Tubos came tubeless is a pretty solid clue

A life lesson that is especially true with Cuban cigars:

If it's seems too good to be true then it probably is.

Cigar lessons I learned from FoH . . . buy your cigars from Rob Ayala and his crew!!!! If you can't or he doesn't have what you need buy your cigars from someone Rob Ayala recommends. These two lessons will eliminate "fakes" from your life.

I feel bad for the person who was cheated, but any cigar seller that approaches you needs to be avoided. The legit cigar sellers like Rob have no need to seek out new clientele. The clientele finds them!!

I am a bit curious on this. Habanos SA still shows the Monarca as a current production cigars on their website. Despite previous notes that it is discontinued.

I don´t know if it is still or not being produced but Habanos website is not updated often.

Rob always sets a good example of professionalism and leadership during times of "discrepancies".

Just curious... What does "grey market" mean in this context? Does it mean fakes (full of paint chips, hair, etc.. Like in all the horror stories on the Internet) or does it mean someone who takes an authentic empty box and refills it with actual production Cubans that have been rebranded with a fake brand? (Turning a $5 cigar into a $20 cigar)

Grey Market refers to legitimate Habanos SA product that is sold outside of authorized distribution channels. It does not mean fake, counterfeit, or rebranded.

Grey market is authentic product sourced from other than official channels. You could also consider it 3rd party sourcing.

I can assure you that the Monarch/Monarcas is no longer produced. The market was already dried when the announcement of the discontinuation was made.
