Popular Post El Presidente Posted July 30, 2015 Popular Post Posted July 30, 2015 i was on the deck this morning and I noticed that it was shaking. I thought that it was a little strange but put it down to the ....um..."uncertified nature" of the deck structure Blow and behold...we had our first earthquake since 1901. More tremors could be on the way after a 5.3 magnitude earthquake struck off Queensland's coast this morning, rattling homes from the state's NSW border to as far north as Hervey Bay. Geoscience Australia has reported the earthquake struck 100km off Fraser Island at a depth of 35km at 9.41am. There has already been a 3.9 magnitude aftershock in the area. I blame global warming, the labor party and the dentist who killed the lion. 5
WarriorPrincess Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 You are right Rob it is the bloody dentist again.....running away from everyone 2
JohnS Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Glad everyone is okay. I've also heard it's good to have cigars moved around in your humidor every now and then. Aren't you glad the earthquake did that for us all (in the online humidor)?
Fuzz Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Nothing to worry about. It was just Clive Palmer falling out of bed this morning. 4
Lotusguy Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Here in Cali, a 5.x won't even be mentioned in the news

ChanceSchmerr Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Rob - Was there much surprise to this? I thought Eastern Australia was like the West Coast of Canada, living on the ....
ChanceSchmerr Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Either way - scary stuff and I hope no one was injured or infrastructure damaged from this. We lived/will live in somewhat constant worry about this in B.C. I remember my first Earthquake (that I felt) while in high school, shaking all the glass cupboards in my science class about 15 years ago.....Very unnerving.
Duxnutz Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 I just happened to be in the bathroom when it happened (not on the throne tho!). There's a hairline crack on the wall in my serviced apt which I hope isn't a metaphor on how my training is going to end up!

wabashcr Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Frightening article from the New Yorker about an impending 9.0+ magnitude earthquake and tsunami striking the Pacific Northwest. http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2015/07/20/the-really-big-one Fascinating read, especially how they uncovered all the seismic history in that region.
SCgarman Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 FWIW, I sure hope those aged RASS boxes didn't incur any PTSD from the Earth shaking!!! TEB08's are more precious than gold bars!
Puros Y Vino Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 I remember the Toronto earthquake in 2010. They are extremely rare here. I was working on the 17th floor sitting at my office. I sat looking out a window when all of a sudden my chair starting bouncing up and down. I flung around thinking it was a co-worker pushing down on the back rest. Then I heard the glass in the window ahead of me tinkling and crackling. I called security and they confirmed it was an earthquake. So I shut the lid of my laptop, packed my things and made my way down the stairs. I wasn't sticking around for aftershocks.
