I tossed a fiver in a bag a while ago and forgot about them as I organised them over the months. I decided to look today and there's the bloody flying beetle buzzing around the bag. WTFFFFF. Don't judge me but it got out. What do I do now? I mean... If it's been so long, would it have laid eggs in the cigars? Would it get in my other tupperdores? What do I do now that it might be floating around my house!?

I need assurance that this winged bastard won't go around my cigars. I'm just going to say that freezing ALL my cigars is not a likely option at this point until it turns to Winter in Canada and I can just toss my tupperdores outside.
El Presidente Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 You are going to have to assume that there are beetles in the rest of the cab (If I am reading it correctly..that you took 5 cigars from the cab and put them in a plastic bag where the beetle was spotted). The plastic bag was kept outside of the humidor? If the Cohiba Cab has been in contact with other boxes of cigars in a humidor the first question I would ask is at what temperature were they kept? Remove the cab and Freeze. i am assuming you have a big humidor and freezing everything is a pain. If the beetle is in the humidor....drop the temperature to as low as it can go while maintaining acceptable humidity. You may find the beetle ...let's call him "El Chapo" dead in a few days. They have a 90 day life cycle from egg to end of days.. If he is flying around, he hasn't got too many weeks left. It it were me. check the boxes. Put them in Ziplocks as they are checked. Vacuum the humidor Put a bright light in the humidor. They don't like bright light. Drop the temp to as low as you can go ....and that means 16 C if you can. They are dormant below 18C..but be sure. If I had kept the humidor at under 18 degrees then I would monitor closely. There is a chance nothing has happened. I would carefully check the other boxes as stated and ziplock them once each checks out. ...or you could freeze everything and address the humidor (low temp/bright light/vacuum). 3

Bloody well advice, Bobbert! Asset to the forum as alway (well d'uh! ) I did a thorough quarantine of all the cigars in the immediate vicinity. the reason why I put the fiver in the bag was because it was the last little fiver from the box so I took em out and placed them there with my other "soon to be smoked" bunch. That bag went straight into the fridge and going into the freezer tonight for 3 days. The humidor is all in my A/Cd basement sitting at around 18 degree centigrade. OK, I hope. The only Siglo IV that was infested (it tunned its way out and grew into an adult) is actually still smokeable so we'll see how that goes. If anything, I'll just crop it and smoke it when mowing the grass or walking the dogs. My only quarrel now is if that is a male beetle or a female beetle. If it is a female beetle, they cannot proliferate without males, correct?
