El Presidente
You were really looking forward to it. It was hard to come by or maybe you had aged them yourself for years and years. Maybe expectation was a little too high...but hey...it is hard to contain expectation. What is the one aged cigar that sticks in your mind as a complete disappointment
LordAnubis
I wouldn't say any of the aged cigars i've had have been a disappointment, but they certainly didn't blow my socks off. Same can be said for a lot of the LEs or GR etc. I find that i more enjoy all cigars within 5 years. After this point i think they loose something and i don't enjoy them as much as i would have. I have never had a cuban cigar that has been so bad that i've pitched yet (unless it was a plug, but that's not the tobaccos fault).
Fuzz
A HdM DC from 2002 (I think). Was just above mediocre, to be honest. What flavours I could draw out were muted and smoke volume was thin and reedy.
polarbear
I had a few Boliver Immenas (I think) from 1998 Cardboard and Newspaper. Was pretty disappointed

You are correct about some of the LE's like the Montecristo D LE 2005, was definitely a flop, along with the Ramon Allones Allones Extra LE 2011, which I had extremely high hopes for... but the early LE's from 2000 and 2002 were amazing... I believe these helped stop the rapid decent of the cuban cigar industry.

Interesting. It is such a pity as HdMs usually are great with 5+ yrs age. Hopefully others haven't had the same experience.
ChanceSchmerr
1980s ERDM Panetela. Clearly not a blend meant for long-term ageing. It had absolutely nothing left by the time I had gotten to it.
ayepatz
These Punch Royals Benelux APO JUL 09. Consistently disappointing. Been working through a cab for a few years now, and, 12 sticks in, I've yet to have a good one. Construction, aroma and sheen all looked good, but they're harsh smokes with irregular burn - any cone is always off-centre. Have tried everything, humidity high, low, dry-boxing. Real shame. Full of rich Punch flavour and proper burn each time. Sorry to hear your experience hasn't been as good

Full of rich Punch flavour and proper burn each time. Sorry to hear your experience hasn't been as good I brought them back from a European trip a few years ago. Keep hoping they'll come good, but I suspect I've got a Friday afternoon box lol The good thing is that it was the state of this cab that got me looking for more reliable sources, which in turn brought me to FOH! So I can't be too upset!
raymond5737
Now I'm nervous. I just purchased the Partagas Serie D Number 4 (Aged) OPA AUG 09 off of a recent 24:24. I figure that it is a good idea to try them (any Cuban cigar) aged, before I get too crazy with my purchases. So, 5 years generally is the right cut off for aging? What do you say Rob. dangolf18
Box of Siglo I with box code SXF OCT05. Very bland. Actually most stuff from 2005 sucks.
joeypots
Quite a few of the Els. In particular the R&J 2004, The second release of the Hoyo Pirimide EL '03 never came around for me. A box of '05 Mag 46 were duds.
Havanaaddict
For me it has always gone back to Storage Storage Storage!!! I have had the same cigar from 97' and mid 80's and the 97' was flat and the mid 80's was mind blowing flavorful. I have smoked more vintage cigars the I can count and I have only had a small percentage that were flat or poor tasting.
Colt45
I know it'll sound trite, but for me it has to start with a properly produced cigar regardless of band or box.

The Punch Royals have been one of the best regionals I've had. And they're pretty prolific around the world as well.

Fingers crossed there may yet be a few decent ones in there!

You get good and bad (and in between) in everything. Those D4's have the construction and aroma and wrapper to be seriously good cigars. Just let them rest for 60 days upon receipt. They will have done some travelling in the last 30 days (from HK to OZ and now to yourself). They will need a kip but should be ready to go once acclimatized. phreedh
Sometimes it's just a matter of the occasion. Last year, I had a Por Larrañaga Panetelas from the mid 70s on my birthday in late September. It kind of sucked and I was rather disappointed. Had another from the same box this summer, it was great. The only difference was the circumstance under which it was enjoyed. Instead of cold, dark and humid the weather was warm, light and dry. I had much lower expectations too.
Lotusguy
The pre-reboot Vegueros - OMG, are they bad!!! Also the RyJ Hermosos #2 were way over the hill when I got to them in 2013 already - just hot air.
