Cohiba Stevie Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Hi guys, Im pretty sure i will be fine but just checking with you guys for peace of mind. I was performing some maintenance in my humidor today and spilled a very small amount of distilled water in my cabinet humidor. Probably 30-20 ml By the time i realised i had done it (roughly 20 mins after it had happened it had already dried up. The only thing was a slight dampness to a corner of a box of por larranaga picadores (i put them at the back to let them settle a bit) but i checked the box and the dampness never penetrated through to the actual cigars and the lining paper was dry. I cant be 100% as the dampness may soak into the paper, also as i only realised 20 mins later it may have been worse but because its dried in i cant be sure So my question is: will my cigars and humidor be ok? Thanks for any shared thoughts in advance. Cheers
CigSid Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Having accidentally spilled water in my humidors several times, I can confidently say you will have no problems at all... If the PL's were penetrated, it will only take them about 30 days to be revert back to normal.
shlomo Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 I've spilled water on a few occasions too. I let the place dry out completely for a few days before another box touches that part of the shelf. Then I make sure the wood is not warped at all. Then I ignore it. As for the box, check in a couple weeks for signs of mold, and again in a few months. It's never caused a problem for me.
ethernomad Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 Better send them all to me for sampling and inspection, just in case.
smokum Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 After my ex wife shoved my Aristocrat around I noticed she cause a Damp Rid to spill some salty liquid in the bottom. It was dried when I finally noticed. I just damp sponged it out and called it good.
cigcars Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 ...isn't that how some of those coveted little green spot dots get on our beloved Habanos?
shlomo Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 ...isn't that how some of those coveted little green spot dots get on our beloved Habanos? If you are referring to water spots, then no. They happen while the tobacco is still in the fields iirc. Also could be excess water on or in the leaf during curing. I don't find that they add or detract from a cigar in any way other than aesthetics. Little chance of them being labelled psp I would imagine.
PapaDisco Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 I concur that you should not put any boxes or cabs on the damp spot for a few days, until it all evens out. Humidors are, well, humid enough that a particularly damp spot could produce those tiny drops of liquid water (even droplets too small to see) that mold needs to get going. Otherwise, you've got no problemo.
Cohiba Stevie Posted July 21, 2015 Author Posted July 21, 2015 Thanks for all the help guys. Ive checked everything tonight and all is A-OK. Thanks again 1
