Hi all - hope you can help with some suggestions

I have been smoking a lot (by my standards) of cigars lately, averaging 2-3 a day.

In the past day, all the cigars I have smoked appear to be tasteless, although I am still able to smell the fragrance of the smoke.

Has anyone else encountered this before?

Should I be laying off cigars for a while to let my palette recover?

There's a recent thread here with a similar experience and the person was worried about their storage causing this.

Some suggested that the person may be sick, thus unable to taste the cigar.

I now use this as an excuse to smoke. I now smoke cigars to see if I can taste anything and if I can, I know with certainty that I'm healthy!

Most likely this, I can't really smoke more than one a day before my mouth needs a rest, in fact it needs a rest after 3-4 days straight off just one a day.

I am much the same. My mouth and my lungs don't appreciate more that two or three sticks a week. Having said that, I enjoy the flavour of a good cigar for at least 24hrs after smoking it. That's good value :)

BTW OP you mean palate, not palette, which is an artists tool.

Yes palate! Thanks. Something didn't look right.

When I find myself being able to taste the cigars I smoke less I'll take several days to a week off from smoking. That does not mean I'll take time off from buying though.

Thanks, I have trouble spelling my own name never mind a tricky word like palate. Alway thought the a after the l was an e and wouldn't take the time for a hard look in the dictionary.

I agree, you need a break.

So many in one day, geesh, no wonder, you've smoked your taste buds.

I'd give it a break, as hard as it may be, but give some time for rest and your body will recover.

I've had my palate "shift" before. I'd be into a strong Dominican kick, then lose taste for them and switch to Nics. Once I really got into CC's I'm not to fond of the strong Dominican's.

I always take a week off here and there. Just like eating to much of your favorite food. Unusually stop by choice, smoke some new stuff, and rekindle the joy of smoking later on.

For me, when I feel my taste is off I need a minimum 5 day break. However, the first couple of cigars after the break taste wonderful!

your palette is fine. It probably has more to do with the constant changing conditions than anything else. Even the best humidor and humidifying device will not be able to keep cigars at optimum smoking conditions at all times. The cigars will go into cycles. and there is also the ambient smoking condition that can play a factor. A cigar can still be quite enjoyable even when some of these conditions are off by just a little. But when all the stars perfectly align, you will know it is something special. And when this happens, I bet you can smoke 5 or more cigars on the same day and you will enjoy each and every single one of them down to the nub. :-)

I experience the same thing when I smoke too much. Just came back from a cottage trip with my family where I was smoking my face off (3-5 per day). Last night could not taste anything from a cigar.

This happened to me after I had surgery for my sleep apnea. That was about 4 years ago. Cigars have never tasted the same since. And, it took a long time for the sense of smell to return also.

Issue is back. I now have a theory it's a combination of smoking too many, and also cigars losing flavour in hot and humid environment

You smoke too many and are not used to it. It's normal.

My usual smoking routine is that I don't smoke for weeks because of business and family obligations. When I find the time I will smoke 2-3 a day for a week or more. By the end I am smoking my cheap and cheerfuls because my palate is destroyed. Give yourself a break brother. You're wasting good cigars not being able to taste them. Cheers!

This has happened to me a few times, although I don't smoke that much. Try getting some fluticasone nose spray. Don't smoke for a few days and spray once in each nostril, twice per day.

Interesting to see these replies. Never experienced this, although I never smoke multiple cigars in a day. I do often smoke for 4 or 5 days in a row though and haven't run into this.
