Good afternoon BOTL/SOTL

I just received an order from another vendor (before I found Rob and FOH). They arrived today. The party 898 and the H up Royal Robusto looked fine both from 2014. I opened my box of PUNCH PUNCH Tubos and its was from 2009. I began opening the tubes to inspect the cigars and they are covered in either mold or plume. I am not savy enough to tell the difference. Any assistance you all could provide would be greatly appreciated. I either have some nicely aged cigars or a box of mold. If it is indeed mold, I am going to request a refund. Since finding FOH I have been ordering from Rob and his 24:24. It is very comforting to know that there are great vendors out there willing to only sell the highest quality and put your mind at ease knowing you are getting quality CC's.

Thank you for your feedback!

Absolutely mold. Bad too. Try brushing off, but if it were me I would return to the vendor who sold them.

Tubos are notorious for mold build up.

That's what I figured. Now that I found FOH I won't be ordering from any other vendors. Thanks for your help!

If it were just the lightly speckled white mold I'd brush it off and smoke them. Had a box of R&J Churchill tubos from Canada that came pretty thoroughly speckled, but it was just the white stuff and none on the foot. They were some of the finest smoking cigars I ever had.

2009 Punch Punch can be spectacular. Unfortunately it looks like (on my screen) that you've got some brown/blue/green mold and on the foot too. Bummer.

Tubos do seem somewhat more prone. I guess it's that the tube prevents the interior humidity from adjusting in the face of rapid temperature changes. The cigars get cooled in transit, you get liquid water (even tiny droplets is enough) and that sets off the mold.

Well of course they tried to pass it off as plume when I sent pictures. I explained this was not plume. They are being congenial and I am sending them back for a refund. I guess that means I have more funds to spend on the upcoming 24:24!

To be fair the 898's and the H Upps Royal Robusto were in very good shape. They are still young so they will be aging in my new Whytner for a nice long nap.

Plume isn't huge, it isn't raised, it doesn't look like it has tentacles, and it isn't on the foot. Good thing you're sending these back, no way should you smoke them if it isn't just on the wrapper.

Not nice that they tried the "it's plume!" line, but it's good that they're taking them back in the end. Keep in mind that tubo's are a lot of work to inspect and so I wouldn't expect even the best of dealers to just inspect a small sample, if that.
