fabes Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 nothing is sacred . derrek I agree, like others have stated. All it takes is one. That one that you save for a special occasion. When you smoke it, and it is not as transcendent as the expectation you placed on it, then you can move on. I fully understand and appreciate the sentiment of this thread, but my experience has taught me that it's not always worth it. I'm sure we've all had spectacular & dud experiences with the 'sacred' cigars and there is nothing wrong with saving the special for their designated occasions. Burn 'em and enjoy 'em. Anytime could be the right time. Better enjoyed than not.
Carpenter69 Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 Smoke away. Although, my son was born this last Wednesday and I bought a box of RA Hunters&Frankly to store until he's old enjoy to enjoy and appreciate them. I'd love to save my gladiators but I don't see that happening!
ned Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 I was gifted a cohiba that has the diplomatic band on it. it is a bit haggard. i have no idea how old it is....but that is one i have never been able to light up. just something special about it.
TomF Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 We never know when we may go the way of all flesh...so I smoke 'em while I got 'em. Will I enjoy it any more next year than I will now? Will I be here next year? Better to smoke it now...you never know when I may come across another one anyway... ...and I kind of feel the same way about long term aging. I'd hate to hold on to a box of cigars for 5 or 10 years, wanting every day to smoke one but holding off, and then drop dead before I do. That would just suck.
cigarsmoke Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 1991 Cohiba Robusto I've been looking at my last one for 5 years now LOL...... 1
shlomo Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 I have a late 80s Taboada rolled for Pablo Escobar that was a gift from a friend that has passed away now. A few others I keep putting off: 1980's Davidoff Dom Perignon 1980's Dunhill Cabinetta 1980's Dunhill Atados Late 80s Taboada rolled for el patron! There must be an interesting story behind that...!
westg Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 Late 80s Taboada rolled for el patron! There must be an interesting story behind that...! What will make it more interesting is when you tell everyone you smoked it...you can do it ..smoke it today 1
GTS21 Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 In no particular order... Cubatobaco 25th Por Larranaga Magnum la Flor de Cano Diademas 80s Bolivar Gold Medals Cohiba Coronas 70s Partagas Lusitanias 109s Davidoff 80th Anniverario 4
Ryan Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 I forgot. I have a single Partagas Fox No 1. A 109 size from 1969, the year I was born. I think for my 50th.. There was a time I had one Por Larranaga Magnum, I gave that away 5 years ago. I found a few more since. I had one Flor de Cano Diadema. I gave that away too, just before I found out they were selling for £800 each in London. 2
AndrewNR Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Posted not long after joining the forum about my first known cuban cigar.. members helped me identify it and amazingly one of them messaged me offering me one.. Was some years after I'd had one and was an LE06 Cohiba. I take it out now and again and remember the one I had.. admire it.. and enjoy the sentiment of the FoH community and the passion and generosity of that member.. Think I'll probably be buried with it.
treberty Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 I've had a 1985 (or 1986) Cuban Davidoff Aniversario sitting in my humidor for a solid 15 years... was supposed to smoke it when my twin boys were born... that was 4 years ago. Smoked an aged Lusi instead. Don't think I'll ever smoke it and I don't know why!! I smoked some pre-revolution or other aged (15+ years) cubans no problem, but never was able to smoke that Davidoff... maybe it's just not meant to happen.
Monty83 Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 For me it's the Cohiba Siglo VI Gran Reserva...I only have two singles left and no matter how many times I reach for it, no matter how many special occasion come and go, I can never bring myself to pull the trigger...
MPS Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 The last cigar Mons rolled for me. I am thinking I will smoke it on his birthday one year with a friend of mine.
Habana Mike Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 One that's been niggling me is a last RyJ POW. Put that out of its misery this afternoon!
El Presidente Posted July 5, 2015 Author Posted July 5, 2015 One that's been niggling me is a last RyJ POW. Put that out of its misery this afternoon! ...and how was it Mike?
Habana Mike Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Mild to medium, nicely balanced. Possessed the same quite tight draw of most of these from the late 90's I've had. Semi-sweet, floral, cedar and must. Similar to many older smokes it had that hint of what i can only describe as old socks - not in a bad way but just sort of musty. A bit woody, very faint fruit. Turned a little bitter in the last quarter. Lasted me upward of two hours and was enjoyable but not entirely memorable.
treberty Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 The last cigar Mons rolled for me. I am thinking I will smoke it on his birthday one year with a friend of mine. Also saving those precious Monsdales! Tried the new guy's blend last October.... good, you know it'll never be the same. 1
treberty Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 I forgot... there's also my Padron Milleniums that were given to me by Jorge... they are fantastic and I just can't bring myself to smoke the last 2 still sitting in my humidor. I know we should always smoke the best cigars we have now, but it's really, really hard sometimes. Cheers to those who can smoke the best night after night!
Surucipe Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 Nothing is sacred! "Because it's Wednesday" is as good a reason as a birthday or any other reason. Enjoy them while you can I say! 1
Puros Y Vino Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 A 1982 Davidoff No 2 Tubo. Just smells so damn good as it is. A 1960 RyJ Cedros No 1 A 1943/44 H Upmann Cristales 1
Guest robustog Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 My last Siglo VI '03 With mixed emotion I have to say my last '03 Siglo VI no longer exists. For my birthday (yesterday) I smoked it pared with some Macallan 18. What a fantastic cigar. It was well worth the wait but i'm also sad that it is gone. No regrets though. Simply amazing cigar.
Philski Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 PSD4 Reservas - about 6 left (I think). Just. Can't. '00 Lanceros too...
