ImTripN2 Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 Why would enjoying the incredible beauty of our universe be considered as being "nerdy" ? Hope you were in a lounge chair with a drink and a good cigar!
dougincanada Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 I have thing for rpg games. I like moding some of the pc ones. Having characters from fallout new vegas randomly break into dance is amusing. I have played far too much Dragon Age Inquisition on the ps4. I am purchasing a Lenovo K3 note dual sim phone from China so I can get higher end technology at a cheaper price. I may have to root it so i can get more software installed. Do we ever tire of getting new toys? Regards, Doug
Stogieninja Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 I used to collect action figures. Sold them off a few years ago, too much clutter...
AndrewNR Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 I've got a soft spot for video game stuff... I'm pretty specific though.. Anything I can relate to my WW2 Harley... "Mantiques" etc..
Hiram2011 Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 I'm a video game junkie. Bounce back & forth between the Xbox one & ps4. Also love to read Star Wars novels. 1
perkinke Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 Oh man, I love Star Wars and Legos (stepson and I bonded over both of those) and I am a huge museum and history nerd. I had to be tracked down and asked to leave three separate Smithsonian museums at closing time. Didn't even realize I had spent a full day in each.

asmith Posted July 9, 2015 Author Posted July 9, 2015 I feel a warm blanket of comfort wrapped around me from all the other nerdy pursuits. Well done to Lakemirror for his first post on the forum and you admit to amateur radio, I doubt there has been a more nerdy first post ever, well done 1
Coolio Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Hey Smithy, just to let you know I've revoked my back decks 'No Nerd Policy', given the surprising news that you're a nerd. I had no idea. The two mobile phones should have given it away I suppose! Anyway, come round for a stogie, all is forgiven!
Duxnutz Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 I'm supposed to go to Bali tomorrow and the recent days of delays and cancellations due to the volcanic ash has made me rekindle an old nerdy hobby when tracking aircraft movements to see if Bali airport is open. Back before the days of internet plane tracking sites, like planefinder below, I used to track plane movements using a radio tuned in to the ACARS frequencies connected to my computer to plot the received data on a map. The next morning I'd check (best reception was overnight) what planes had passed over my area and where they were going. Nowadays its easier, just use internet :-) Did you notice the Garuda (or was it someone else?) who chanced it leaving MEL this morning and had to divert ???

rtrimbath Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 I'm into everything Star Wars. At one point two years ago I had read every book and graphic novel of the Expanded Universe. I am pretty stoked about the new movie coming out in December. It's a good bet I'll be at the midnight showing. 1

Cohiba Stevie Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 Great thread smithy! and great to hear from you again! My nerdy things are: Technology - I love getting my hands on a new gadget, current obsession is with home automation. Everything from my wifi controlled garden sprinkler system to my wifi connected humidor, just discovered how to get humidor status notifications sent to my apple watch. Home brewing - what started as a general interest just over a year ago has seriously escalated, i now have a micro brewery/cigar shed in in my back garden with full keg and tap system. Satellite TV, I've recently installed a third dish on my house so i can watch more eastern television. Fascinating news coverage in some of those countries compared to watered down bbc stuff we see here. Gaming, haven't done much in the last year with my 8 month old son but I consider the metal gear solid series of game as the best there has ever been, despite my love of tech i haven't got round to purchasing a PS4 yet but it will happen when MGSV comes out. Also a massive fan of the GTA series (who isn't?) Animation - totally fascinated by it, anything from disney/pixar to japan's studio Ghibli - I consider the anime 'AKIRA' a masterpiece and it boggles my mind that it was made in the 80's. Truly incredible. 1
Professor Twain Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 The Dune science fiction series by Frank Herbert. I have read the 6 volume series twice, and listened by audiobook an additional time. Oh, and The Prisoner, the British TV show... I've watched the DVDs three times through. 1

I have first editions of every book, including the more recent spin offs by Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson. I could survive on a desert island with those six books and be happy.
