I won't lie, deep down there is a nerd in me wanting to get out. surprised.gif

Last night I got all excited about the night sky as Jupiter and Venus were right beside each other in the sky. I took a couple of photos and am pretty pleased with the results below, Venus is the bright of the two. Now it was no Transit of Venus, wow, I was loosing my sh#t that day, but still exciting.

I am sure that we all have some nerdy pursuits that we have hidden from others so here is your time gentlemen put them on the table and tell us what they are?

My other nerdy pursuits are; Chess, Maths and I can solve a Rubiks cube, what are yours?

I live about 3 miles from the center of Houston and I keep Bees behind my house, according to everyone who isn't me it's pretty nerdy lol.

I had a big nerdgasm while trying to crack our wifi passphrase and battering a new web server I deployed with metasploit. My latest dorkventure has been an attempt at dual-booting Kali Linux on a MacBook Pro.

Ahhh Rubiks very cool. I love the Rubiks Magic puzzle still have in the home desk. As for nerdy I love chemistry, distilling and collecting faults and specimen money.

I collect comic character statues.

And yes, I have spent quite a bit of time the last few nights star gazing. Fascinating.

Watching every Doctor Who from episode 1 onwards (including all reconstructions of the missing episodes). Started in 2012 I believe, I take frequent breaks (it does get repetitive after a while) and I just started the Peter Davison years.

No, that is pretty cool. It's one of the things I also want to have a go at. Thought you might like the link below as well, revolutionary new hive.

I'm also a gamer, I have a wife, kids, full time job, every day of every week, life in general can be quite challenging at times, even stressful so for me, I love nothing more than turning on the XBOX and losing myself in a game. I'm currently playing The Witcher 3, at least 30 hours in and it's a massive game and I love it!

Who says that just because one grows up you have to forget what made you happy growing up?

Adding to all this, I keep a certain couple of threads updated every day. I often say to myself, don't post today, yeah right! wink.pngsmile.png

I tried for over 10 years to put the Beach Boys 1967 unfinished album, "Smile" together. It turns out that it really can't be done from a fan's point of view, it needed composer Brian Wilson to re-do the whole thing as a solo artist in 2004. I'm glad he did. (I also have had fun putting together versions of The Beatles' Get Back and The Who's Lifehouse in the past.)

Funny thing, Smithy, I rang my brother-in-law to see how he was the other night, and he told me how much he was enjoying using his telescope to track Jupiter!

the only surprising thing about this post is that you seem to honestly believe that it is "deep down".

I also can solve a rubiks cube 3x3x3 only though, anything Star Wars, techy like building a pc from scratch, playing Diablo and StarCraft and playstation gaming - currently Batman Arkham Night and can't wait for Unchartered 4 next year.

How does one "pursue" Maths? Do you go around doing Laplace Transforms in your head or something?

For me it's probably RC car racing. Science/Engineering is my job so i guess my job is more nerdy than my home life.

Oh boy... nerdy pursuits? I have several, but the main ones are comics and miniature gaming. For comics, it's mainly about Swedish Spider-man for collecting purposes and then various american Marvel, Vertigo and other current titles. Favourites right now are Ex Machina (though it's ended), Saga (see a theme?) and I'm still enjoying the Walking Dead TPBs. I'm subscribing to all the current Star Wars titles too... but they aren't very good so I doubt I'll continue with those.

I'm also a miniature (and board) gaming nerd, with a penchant for vintage Citadel miniatures from the 80s. I have a blog displaying stuff I've painted over the last few years at http://ministuff.godzilla.se - here are a few samples:

Before me and the wife had our kids, I spent a lot of time on video games such as The Elder Scrolls (Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim) or Diablo 2. Last thing to really suck me in was Fallout 3 or maybe Fable 3.

I also love making music quizzes or playlists in Spotify on various themes. A few years ago a did one with 100 songs from 100 different artists. It was quite a challenge to get a 100 songs in a playlist that have staying power. Here's a link to that:

Yup, that's about it... and then I smoke cigars and save the bands in a little book with notes on the occasion. But that's not nerdy, is it? ;)
