I bought the xtreme a few weeks ago and just noticed "China" marked on the trigger. The lighter feels real, so I'm wondering if this is still real or fake?

I'm pretty sure they're made in China now instead of France. At least that is what I read on another forum.

I belive all the torches are now made in china. Also a don't think a counterfeit item would bother with stamping it's country of origin lol.

Good point but you never know. The "China" is pretty small but it's still a bit of a turnoff. Not a good branding move if you ask me.

Good point Jones.

Upon further "research" (with the caveat you shouldn't believe everything you read on the internet) there are several comments that the Dupont factory in France burned down and they moved production of the *-Jet lighters to China.

[used to be known as "X-Tend" and Made in France until the factory burned, S.T. Dupont moved the "X-Tend" factory to China and renamed it "Maxi and Mini Jet".]

So either way I imagine it could be authentic or not.....

Thanks for the info Mike. I have no doubt this is real now. Packaging was legit. Ironically it's probably the counterfeits that have Made in France on them. Obviously, if you're buying a Ligne lighter, you want to see the Made in France stamp.

The ligne range is still made in france, but the extreme, mini's and maxi's are made in china

Correct!

Kill two birds with one stone. Get an insurance payout on the old (expensive) factory and then lower production costs by moving to a new low cost factory. Brilliant

They outsourced the jet lighter to China a few years ago. It was maybe 2011 when you could still find the torches with the made in France label, since it's been China. Lotusguy was the first to notice this on the forums when it occurred.

The xtend may have been made in france but the maxijet minijet and extreme are china. It looks exactly like mine and I've never heard of any counterfeits. I'm pretty dissapointed with the extreme's jet. It's smaller on high than the maxijet and I'm already experiencing flame outs which I didn't experience much at all with the maxijet. I also thought the tank would be bigger but it isn't.

Greetings, please stop !!! The torches are and have always had Chinese internal parts, period. Again it is only the outside case and trigger that were French. Please stop romanticizing the lighters. They are not French and who cares. Sorry to burst the bubbles of the pretentious. Blessings !!!

Do you have anything from st dupont that confirms it? Not just what someone at some repair center said.

So far I heard the following

- Xtend was made in france from French parts inside out

- Xtend was made (assembled) in france from Chinese parts inside out

- and now Xtend was made (assembled) in france from Chinese inside parts and French outside parts

Does it really matter where they're made?

Just cause something is made in China doesn't always mean its lesser quality

I'm not automatically down on Chinese products, Kershaw makes some good Chinese knives. But you need to have the quality control down to make a good product.
