Elvis Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 I love the marble Hotel Nacional Ashtrays. Here's a variant, I've never seen before. Has anyone else? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-HOTEL-NACIONAL-DE-CUBA-Solid-Marble-Pipe-Shaped-Cigar-Ashtray-Havana-/371359975709?
LordAnubis Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 That looks nice!!!! Cheers for the pic! Doesn't look too practical though. Doesn't look like cigars would rest on it very well. First impressions from a pic anyway.
MrGinger Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 There are lots of those in Havana. They are ok for smoking alone.

Guest rob Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 There are plenty of different styles, shapes and colours available of the marble 'Hotel Nacional' ashtrays. I think the large 10 inch variety (which weighs a lot!) is the most popular though. I noticed on my last trip that the current batches are now made up of laminated marble glued together (so there are seam lines, and different colours, veining - all on the one ashtray) rather than a single slab.

Never seen that style before, in trips since 2008, and not even on my last one in Feb/Mar. Seems a bit curious to me.

Rob, I don't think I've ever seen one that's one solid piece. Most are two pieces, seamed together. I have noticed though that the ones seen both last fall and this spring are a lot more "sloppy" in their manufacturing in hiding that seam. That said, I think the colours and variety of marbles used are that much better, so it's *** for tat really.
